what i still dont get is why the garages put the price up at the pump based on the rising cost of oil FUTURES, that wont even be delivered to refineries for 3 months.

A friend of mine goes through 2 years of college and 3 years of uni, and then gets employed on £42k a year, with degrees...

but your mate prob works 5 day 37.5 hours week, where these drivers work 60 hours 6 day week

actually... they don;t need much training... better scores on the theory/presception test (which most of them probably didnt have to do anyway... before there time )

then a few lessens in a tanker... and a test, which is just an HGV one test but you have to be more careful / break a bit different (pretending you have a 1/2 full tank on the back sloshing around!)

and... they defenatly dont do 60 hours a week... youre not allowed to drive that many hours week after week....  most class 1 (artic) drivers I know only do 45hours and thats there limit !

(its pretty complicated stuff tho, limited working hours in between driving, allowed to do more hours if you have have a few days off before/after, changes depending on how often you have breaks, how far you drive, and what you do in your breaks!)

I know you guys are all talking about the costs and the reasons behind it, but I cant be the only person who is pretty freaked out right now about the future and what will happen if in a few years petrol has broken, say, the £3 or £4 a litre barrier? Visions of kids playing on the street as theres hardly any cars, a reverse car tax where people without cars get subbed by the government, house price fluctuations as people who wouldnt normally move, sell up and move to get closer to where they work so they can walk/cycle/bus in?

In a way a future with less cars on the road might be nice, but on the otherhand, Ive been driving *just* long enough for me to know just how damn useful cars are and how convenient they can be

Dont disagree with the argument, but is that 12,500 figure actually right? Surely not if you take into account additional benefits/unexpended living costs?
