Mondeo Sold but issue
on: November 27, 2010, 04:16:00 AM
Sold the Mondeo, but it had a fault i didnt know about, it cut out at 70mph, on/off ignition and started fine again, the only thing i found on the net is Crank/Cam sensor overheating and cuts the engine.

The issue is, the bloke who bought it wants me to cough up half for the cost of repair, i didnt do a receipt for the car cus he was in a rush it seemed, he just paid up and left.

What should i do?

tell him to FO, you are not a dealer and you genuinly didnt know about the fault, he should have checked the car thoroughly before handing any cash over.

Sold as Seen.

if you wanted to show abit of good will maybe buy the new sensor for him cant see it being more than £20.

If you got more than you paid, then you could do a fair deal.. after all he knows where you live & your next car
could suddenly have a nasty scratch or something appear/disappear overnight.

I love this conflicting advice you get when buying selling a car.

They always say
"Dont sell the car at your own house"

Then go on to say
"When buying, make sure you buy from someones house"

Sold it £200 cheaper than the price i reduced it too, or £400 cheaper than book price which i had it listed at originally, if id have got £2-400 extra and not been knocked down i would have some cash to play with, but subsequently i got the minimum amount i was willing to accept.

Youre a big lad, tell him to get stuffed. If hes getting shirty over a £20 sensor on a 2nd hand car then hes clearly trying it on, thats not the kind of fault you would be expected to know about.

Any sale like this is always sold as seen, especially given he didnt even take the time to get a receipt, its not really your fault he didnt spend much time there and going over the car. Ive never in my life bought a 2nd hand car and not expected something to be/go wrong!

You could do that, but wouldnt the new owner be able to get the previous owners address off the vehicles V5 document? Its like say if I sold my car and requested it to be collected from my works address but then say if it goes wrong, the buyer could turn up at my home address.

As far as you know there was/is no fault so its his problem, he should have checked.

You arent a business so hes got no come back, cavat emptor applies.
