I dont think its been thrashed, the owner certainly wasnt boy racer type and he reckons the guy that had it before him lovingly serviced it too, so should be fine. The RS badges will be coming off. Speaking of which, whats the best way to remove them?

The guy is polish or something, he put "noisy engine" and meant "quiet engine", its quiet as a mouse.

hair drier to get the badges off and then white spirit to remove the residue, make sure you polish it after the white spirit though.

The guy was a mid thirties and didnt seem to have boy racer profile at all, I think the badges were probably fitted by a previous owner. 0-60 is probably a few seconds slower than my MX-5.

Not too up on what works with which model in that range, but something like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-COM-Serial-VW-Audi-Car-Diagnostic-Code-Reader-OBD-2_W0QQitemZ180324098783QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment?hash=item180324098783&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1689|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1308

Its a handy lead to have in any event

Those TDIs get very noisy if thrashed, they also sound horrible in the cold.  Mine fortunately a 55k still sounds reasonabily quiet.

Again, nice little buy there.

VAGCOMs also save you £50 diagnosis fees when you get the odd fault light.
