New car
on: January 29, 2009, 14:33:12 PM
Well my Clio has been officially written off today after an incident on Tuesday that meant I had to kerb it to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me - the subframe is all warped.

So, now Im looking for something to replace it with. Low budget (sub 1k ideally), but I know there are bargains out there as Ive seen a few come and go but keep missing them.

Im also wondering if its worth doing a HP on something better, but what do you guys think to that given the current car climate?

Im guessing in the current climate you can haggle the hell out of anyone, buyers market for sure.

Whats good for a K though? who knows, but I do know spending a lot of time cocking about on pistonheads sales adds is a good idea :)

Yeah that was my first port of call along with autotrader. I keep getting tempted to pick up another cheap MX-5.

They didnt pull out of a sideroad, they pulled out from the left lane into my lane right in front of me, giving me no braking distance at all.

Why feign whiplash? Im sick of this, if youre not part of the solution youre part of the problem. If youre genuinely injured then of course, make a claim. Youll probably have a small fortune in medical bills that you need to cover anyway. But if youre not injured why lie just to scam money out of the system? Youre just f**king everything up for everyone and making it a damn sight harder for people who are trying to get back medical expenses to make a legitimate claim.

because thats now how the system works. People pay so much in, they want to take some out.
have a go at the foreigners & un-insured, they are the reason premiums are so high & a large chunk of the premium goes into that pot that pays out when people have to claim off their own insurance.

If you hit someone from behind its always your fault in the eyes of the insurance companies. I was better off risking the kerb I thought, having thought I might not have done that kind of damage.

Myth

Hitting someone from behind when they have pulled out in front of you isnt going to go their way. If there is no room to pass take the chance and go straight into them. The damage from the curb means either you lose your no claims anyway or the value of the car. Hit them instead, use the excuse there was no time or room and you have at least a 50/50 chance they will have to pay for it.

There have been a number of cases where people have reversed into other cars on side roads and then claimed, it wasnt taken as a problem until someone did it to an unmarked police car with a video camera.
