Thats 20 pounds or 9kg. :D

Not Lance light, but considering that racers of its era averaged 23 or so pounds, not bad.

The mudguards were cracked after two seasons hard use, and took off the final 600g or so. Ive got a nasty weather bike now, so dont need them, though I liked the look, its nice and lean without them.

I could of course, take it easily down to 17 pounds with a wheelswitch, new post, stem and carbon front end. :P Pointless though. Will probably get a fresh seatpost this summer if I find one on sale, and some fresh and supple 25mm tires.  That should bring it down to about 18. Not that it matters, but not bad for a ride thats all steel, with cxcross worthy tough wheels.

Removal of the fenders has another benefit: skinny cxcross tires at @ 32 mm will fit fine. :D

Now I just gotta go ride the thing.

I just like lightness when I need to shoulder the bike. Otherwise it doesnt affect feel all that much. What makes the single so dang amazing to ride is the fact that there is close to zero bearing and drivetrain drag. Everythings adjusted to be pure buttah. Spin the pedals backwards and they go 6-7 turns before the pawl friction slow them. Theres just this incredible feel of the bike not being in your way. Faster tires would be nice, but the current 28mm rear with 25mm kevlar belted front is quick enough and bulletproof.

7-8 would be light. Mine is simply not heavy.

Hills: you stand

Thats why Ive got the "42X16" thing in my sig. You have to choose the lowest gear that you can muscle up the steepest hill youre gonna encounter. I cant ride this bike at Percy Warner park, for example, as those hills demand at least a 42x26. :P

I was just reminded of cycling up a hill being chased by a dog as I drove up the very same hill this afternoon...all you need is the right level of adrenaline :P

No sh*t.

We have feral ones here. Got attacked by three different packs on three climbs out of my local wetlands, three grindy climbs. Finally got out on the fourth. What a workout! Fear puts the power in ya though. :D

You could get a grease gun, pressurise it, and fill it with some of Maxs Patented "I didnt pay no dollaz for this" lubrication material ;)

lol :) Apparantly the most common injury in smallbore shooting is being shot in your own calve :D So it happens.

Being a paperboy for a few years, Ive dealt with dogs and pests. A friend of mine fell off of his bike whilst riding to get away from a collie that had a reputation for being a bit unruly (owners let him roam wild). The dog bit through his kneecap and he needed minor surgery to put a metal plate in his knee after the damage. When I was covering his round while he was in hospital I used to carry a bb gun around with me. Chased me once, I got on a fence and just squeezed the trigger as fast as I could in the general direction of the mad dog. Cost me a tenner to buy a bb gun, and £5 for like 1000 plastic bbs. Worked great! :D

/me imagines being chased down the street, having prepared myself with a gas-powered fully automatic MP5K BB gun slung over the shoulder ready for the no-good knee-cap biting canines, by a platoon of policemen in fluorescent jam sandwiches (with flashing blue lights ;)) :D

Our new parent company H&S training encompasses such sections as "Canine Awareness" - did you know that apparently 30 people die worldwide every year from being bitten by dogs....
