One of my boss people has just sent an email from a project partner about some tech she thought Id be interested in:

For some strange reason I really want one of these, though I dont want the 1800-2000 euro price tag that comes with it. Itd be great for field work, and probably quite funky for messing about with too...I wonder if I can get them to get one on one of the project budgets...itd be gutting if they do as Id inevitably have to give it back at the end :(

Quite funky. Basically a netbook speced tablet in a rubber case :)

With things like the HP Tablet coming out which is the same spec but with ION and hell of a lot cheaper, things like this should drop in price a bit (or buy a HP tablet & a rubber case :P)

They have done some f**ky stuff with the ectra buttons and rubber (overlay?) keyboard tho.

Agreed, plenty of tablets will be arriving soon enough, all with better spec, longer battery and a far lower pricetag.

Add £25 for a rubber skin and youre away.

I dont know how much of the price tag is down to the "professional" target market, and how much is down to hardware specifics.

Will the tablet PCs coming out have GPS and 3G capabilities built in for example?

Will have to wait and see what the future holds. My preferred plan at the moment is to go and do a masters in Oct, but if my application fails (more than likely) I might try and dig myself deeper in at uni and try and push for some of this tech :D
