101 Warhammer Questions
on: September 14, 2008, 01:07:40 AM
Right then lets do some Q+A get some stuff cleared up before all of us who didnt do beta go and buy the game.

I hear its 1-40, i also hear you can lvl up in pvp, is this correct, also i guess its still possible to lvl in pve?

Is there an Auction House? And whats the player economy like, i got the idea this game is all orientated towards pvp, so whats the economy for?

At lvl 40 is there any PVE content as such, like dungeons / raids etc, ill admit im not a big fan of pure pvp games, i love farming, love making ingame money etc.

The 1-40 grind, how long does it take on average, days/weeks/months? I know the anwser can vary but just an idea of the xp needed vs xp from mobs/quests.

Storage, bags, bank? Can you get more inventory bags, more space?

Any good sites i should bookmark?

Thats it for now, no doubt ill think of more :)

It is up to lvl 40, then there are renown ranks that go to lvl 80 and you earn renown xp in rvr zones, by taking keeps, defending them, etc as well as doing certain quests and things to help your realm. You can lvl up in both pvp and pve.

Auction house is something that Im not too sure on as there isnt one in the lower tiers although I am sure Ive seen an auctioneer mentioned for the higher tiers. The player economy is most likely tied mainly to the crafting system. There are 4 gathering abilities and 2 crafting, you take one of each. The two crafting abilites rely on the 4 different gathering abilities so you will need to buy from others. The crafting abilities are alchemy and talisman making. Alchemists can make all types of potions, dyes and other things that youll need and talisman makers, well, make talismans that can be attached to armour to give stat boosts.

At lvl 40 there will still be pve content, as well as when the major cities have been taken in pvp, the defenders get kicked out and more pve quests are unlocked for the attackers.

I got to lvl 10 in 3-4 days, playing a few hours each day. I didnt spend the amount of time playing as I know you do on MMOs. The devs have said that they wanted it to be fairly easy to get through the lvls.

Storage, well you start with 2 small bags as standard and from the slots on the character window it looks like you can add 2 more bags. I didnt see a bank in the tier 1 and 2 areas of the game.

Ill add another that you havent asked but people may want to know. You can customise the interface, create interface mods, like in WoW, there is a macro menu and things like that.

They got in Carry who worked for gamespot who through her interviewing them etc and at events like E3 found her skills in interface design and development and hired her so the change that has happened since the first iteration and how it looks currently has been a focus to improve which she has been a part of.

Bacon m8 WAR - All about the war, there is pve but you progress and do the most progression in the game being at war and attacking and destroying stuff.

There are banks & AH, You can get a flight to the city from the 2nd Zone

As for the city....  remember the lag in coronet in SWG?

Its as bad as that, if not worse!!!!

    * Core Ruleset - PvP flagged when in enemy zones (although consensual in PvE "protected" areas)
    * Role-playing (RP) - Players are encouraged to roleplay their character, acting (& speaking) as the lore & their character backgrounds dictate they would in certain circumstances. (ie Dark Elves would be ruthless in the extreme and Witch Hunters would treat magic users with suspicion etc.)
    * Open Realm vs Realm - PvP flagged in all zones, players are only safe for their first few levels.

A fourth server type is under consideration:

    * Open-RvR-RP - which naturally combines the characteristics of RP and Open-RvR server types.

On the basic level for people that have totally not followed the game, what are the controls like? Is it like most games such as WoW, LOTRO etc, where you have the keyboard 1-0 for actions/spells/attacks, or have they come up with something slightly different like in AoC?

And...what is the subscription cost?

Open RVR RP servers are already confirmed. Here is the EU list of servers for release on the 18th.

Zpyder, the controls are just like WoW, LOTRO, and other MMOs with the 1-+ keys being used for actions, with it being scrollable for more actions to be added. Some characters have seperate bars too that appear above the regular bar, like the Squig Herder has a seperate bar for his squigs and their attacks, Chaos Marauders have a seperate bar allowing you to select which mutation to use, etc.

From the FAQ at WAR-Europe.com:

Quote
From launch, subscriptions can be purchased online and within the game:
- 1 month for 12.99€ (£10.31)
- 3 months for 35.97€ (£28.55)
- 6 months for 65.94€ (£52.34)

Alternatively, pre-paid Game Card packs for a 60-day subscription will be available through participating retailers for 29.99€ (£23.81).

As for the chicken mechanic, it works like this: On Core Ruleset servers, if you enter a lower tier rvr zone, you will be turned into a chicken with 1 life, 1 attack, etc. You can go into lower pve zones on these servers without worry. On Open RvR servers, they have just changed it so you can go 1 tier below yours and be fine, so tier 4 characters can go to tier 3, but if you go into tier 2, you will be chickenised, but as rvr is everwhere on these servers, I believe you get turned wherever you go in a lower tier.

We intend to offer a wide range of payment options. Credit and debit cards will be one way to pay, in some countries you may also be able to pay through your ISP bill and we are looking into the possibility of offering game time cards as well through retail stores.

OK, so for storage you start with 32 slots in your bag and gain another 16 slots every 10 levels.
