I can't remember...did anyone here end up getting and using a 3D printer in the end? How are you finding it?

I ordered one... was supposed to be 6 weeks to delivery.... waited 4 months and no delivery so got a refund :-(

my little bother has just bought one, so I'm going to have a play with that, if it's any good I'll get myself one too

apparently, pretty soon some patents are going to start running out, and the lazer/goo printers will plummet in price... they're about 10x more accurate, and a lot faster too (apparently)

I was just asking, as I had a telephone interview for a job yesterday that would be using "3d-white light scanning" to measure museum specimens. Pretty cool tech, way faster and more accurate than laser scanning. Would hopefully mean I might be able to quickly scan small things, turn them in to 3D models, and then get them printed...?

yes, you could

if you want to scan/print things, there's an android app for 3d printing... you just need some sort of little turn table to rotate whatever is is round at a nice steady speed

Yeah. But my thoughts were more along the lines of mobile phone app <  using equipment that costs in excess of £100k, with accuracy to 0.001mm ;)
