Comparison of quest dialogue.

WoW:
"Please help me. We were on our way from xx to xx when we attacked by some vicious thugs. I barely made it out alive but I fear for my family, could you get xx so I can remember them?"

AoC:
"All xx must die. My family and I were on our way from xx when we were attacked. They held me and my partner captive and forced him to watch whilst they raped me. Then they killed him, and I barely escaped, but now I am pregnant...please skin them so that I can never forget their faces..."

Success? As far as ive read, the facts are more, 400k people for EA/AOC Launch. Capped at 500K, however Funcom have been saying 1 million..

400k isnt the aim of Funcom, really if you believe that then..

Im not going to sit here and argue the toss. I could lvl from 1-50 again and document all the bugs, errors, missing content etc, that should have be found during beta, i mean did the beta testers actually do any testing and did funcom actually fix anything?

People are praising funcom for patches in the last couple of days? Praising for stuff that should have been fixed during beta.

It looks better for them to fix stuff now though right? Good publicity.. Sorry im just not living in the Conan dream world...

Bacon, were you there when World of Warcraft  launched? For weeks loads of us were running around with half a quest journal that could not be completed due to bugs, pets that could not be tamed, crashes that locked you out of the game when you zoned, huge lag spikes, but give the developers their due within a few months things had settled down and they had really put a lot of spit and polish into things as well as fixed almost all of the bugs.

Unless you have the same number of testers as you are going to have live subscribers you simply will not get all of the bugs. I have participated in so many MMOs from the first day now that this kind of thing just seems to be how it goes, they all have bugs that affect people to varying degrees, no one is any better than the other in this regard. What matters is whether they actually make an effort to fix the bugs as Blizzard did and as Funcom are trying to do at the moment, or whether they simply carpet over them a-la Star Wars Galaxies.

Ill tell you what the problem is, the people they take on for beta testing these days are just playing for comparison to wow, they realise how crap these new mmos will potentially be and dont stick around to report bugs. Ive met 1 yes 1 beta tester so far, doesnt that say everything about AOC.

Bacon I think your being a bit unfair on AoC  to be fair you were not at Wow launch, I remember you starting to play, I was 40’ish by then and most of the early problems were sorted.
I was a bit late in starting WoW myself,  as I wanted to know what other people though before buying the game when I made my mind up to give it a go, I couldn’t find a copy after they took it off the shelves,  I ended up having to pay silly money on Ebay for a copy.

When I started the game it was a bit of a nightmare tbh the servers were really unstable, there were lots of bugs.

Really think you should give AoC a month or 2 longer to see how they deal with the problems :)

People like what they like. Really Warcraft got of to an amazing start, I played the Beta and still go back, same with DAoC. Hopefully the same with Warhammer, the BETA is currently soooo early on it tho that only one race on each side has been released, I enjoy bug checking always amuses me, a big plus factor on this is Im going to know how to get a head start on all the newbs early on, early money making ;)

I just cancelled my subs. Its not through any fault of AoC I hasten to add, its really the opposite. I felt myself getting suckered in again, and really, at the end of the day, do I want to be spending my every spare minute grinding in an MMO. No matter how different an MMORPG can be, the quests and content always end up being a mix of:

Go from A to B
Kill xx things
Collect xx items
Escort xx from A to B
Gather Resources
Create Items

I dont see any room for any variation upon this. The same rule applies to all games really, even things like doom etc, which is essentially go from A to B, collect items (keys) kill xx (boss)...

Rather than spend my whole summer playing this one game, I think Id rather play a mix, and maybe have a social life, which I dont think I would with any MMORPG, let alone this beast...

I have cancelled as well, more due to the fact I have had enough of MMO’s for the time being.
If I ever start playing them again I think I will be going back to WoW when the expansion comes out or might not even bother,
been playing MMO’s for around 5 years now so maybe enough is enough.
