Linking Domain address to sub domain
on: March 23, 2009, 10:21:36 AM
Hey all, Can someone give me a run down of what you do for this..

- Have a domain address - www.myaddress.com with a domain compay
- Got my hosting etc on godaddy and have setup a subdomain... myaddress.myhosting.com and so /myaddress folder on the server.

What do I need to do to set up the address to the domain. I can do url forwarding but the url shows - myaddress.myhosting.com. I want it to show the full other address.

does your domain host allow domainforwarding? only downer with this usually is the name bar wont change from www.whaterver.com when you click on pages.. so it wouldnt say

http://www.tekforum.co.uk/posts/reply/0/14526.page for example, just show http://www.tekforum.co.uk.

Otherwise its just a case of nameservers, etc. - you may even need to transfer the domain to the hosting company

I have done that but I want to do it properly..

confetticakes.5thdigital.com

I want -> confetticakes.co.nz to point to the the link above (only the subdomain) which is a folder in my host directory. I know it 100% doable and not a problem etc, I just not sure myself how as I not actually done it.

If youve created a folder inside your root directory then you should be able to access it from the www.domain/folder address anyway, negating the use of a subdomain.

Yes I know that, Sub Domains have uses.

Does not matter anyway, I have done it the right way.
Got mixed up, I created an addon domain linked to the folder I created.
