Thing is a number of the film companies Bluray only will start shipping HDdvd versions as well

None of them seem to really know which will be the best and there is going to be a lot of money and deals exchanging hands and being made

I think Universal are HD-DVD Only & Disney Blu-Ray Only
The rest are cross platform.
I wouldnt be suprised if we start to see dual sided discs. Blu-Ray on oneside & HD-DVD the other.

The only list I can find :-

Blu-ray support

Paramount
Warner Bros.
Disney (Buena Vista)
Fox
Lionsgate
MGM
Sony Pictures

HD-DVD support

Paramount
Warner Bros.
Universal Studios

For now, give it a few more weeks and you will have universal on blue ray as well, disney, paramount at least will be doing hd as well.
Not one or the other but more will be doing both in a few weeks.

Universal countered rumours that they were going blu-ray only about a week ago and said they will not be supporting the format. Think Disney also put out a press release too saying that they are only doing blu-ray, however, in the past they have said they were looking at maybe releasing on both, plus they have very few releases lined up for blu-ray.

One of the things that makes the studio support argument not work is that fox and disney have postponed almost all of their titles indefinately. Fox had quite a few lined up but then cancelled all but a few and Disney just seems to be dipping its toe in the water rather than jumping in. So really the only exclusive studio that is really releasing content is Sony.

At the moment I will choose Bluray over HD-DVD if they are the same price and region free so I can get 1:1 pixel mapping on my HDTV.  VGA has 2% overscan so it is slightly stretched.

Blu-ray is region-coded, although not on all titles. Think it was Fox and Disney who were the ones who pushed for region-coding and are using it (cant be too sure though, may have been other companies). HD-DVD on the other hand is completely region-free.

Its a shame this is all an issue.

HD-DVD is half the price to produce.

HD-DVD has Dolby HD sound with it which is far superior to any of the current bluray audio systems

HD-DVD does not have any region coding on it so a disc bought anywhere in the world plays everywhere else (this also gets rid of staggered release dates for movies and tv shows around the world).

HD-DVD looks to scale easily as high in capactiy as bluray does so capacity isnt even an issue.

HD-DVD players are easier to make as theyre closer related to DVD players so the hardware will be cheaper for consumers.

HD-DVD is BY FAR the better format for consumers.  Buray is better for people trying to lock us into regioned films, region 1 getting films before europe/australia, etc etc.  It sucks that people are letting bluray even keep up through ignorance.  Region free content is good enough reason but what can you do.

If Microsoft had got a frikken HD-DVD player out at release instead of waiting this long we wouldnt all be being screwed around by Sony.  If bluray turns into another Sony memory stick, minidisc, etc etc that simply confuses things we all lose.

LOL
HD is winning
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41023

I think we will have both saying they are winning and people saying each is winning for a while lol.
Average Joe though will be the one that decides it in the end though
