Hi all,

Pointed in this direction by an existing member when talking to him about problems I'm experiencing on MW2 at the moment. It would appear its related somewhat to the custom firmware talked about the forum already. Thought i would add to the discussion.  Anyway heres what happened:

Signed into PSN last night and started MW2. Had about 3 games where i was getting mullered with like 4 kills and 27 deaths (I'm not great but I'm not that bad either!!!) I thought it was odd but I put it down to being tired and a little off the ball, although now I think about it, I've had some really bad games this week (probably starting monday).

Then, I get into a Domination match and within 20 secs, everybody's game paused. At this point I hear some 13 year old mockney wideboys getting excited and screaming "its 'appening! its 'appening!". A message appears on my screen "unlocking challenges 10/100", then it goes to 20/100, 30/100 etc etc. It gets to 100/100 and then the game resumes. About 5 mins later I'm kicked out of the game and recieve a message saying game terminated as there is security issues with host.

I went into Barracks and ALL my challenges were complete, even Riot shield and I've never even used the Riot Shield!!! It has also levelled me up to 70 on 2nd prestige (i was 69 on 2nd prestige so not too far).

It would appear that the hacking with the custom firmware has started and from reading the reddit link its only going to get worse. It makes my P*ss boil, whats the point?! They've ruined a perfectly good game and rendered it unusable for me now because eveytime i get shot I'll be thinking "Cheating B*stard - Using aim bots" whether they are cheating or not.

Is this going to be the norm for PS3 online titles now? Are other titles like black ops going to be affected or is it just because MW2 isnt supported by IW with patches anymore that make it more vulnerable. Will i get away with going back to MW1 (still a great game!) or will that have gone the same way?

Do you think they will have implement anti cheat software like Steam had to with Counterstrike back in the day?

I used to play Counterstrike on the PC loads... Hell It nearly cost me a degree!!!!


But I find the PS3 so much easier to get into quickly. Load times seem to be quicker and getting into servers is easier with them all being hosted by the users and not remote like they used to be on CS. It's a while since i've gamed on a PC so things might have change but it was never possible to have a "quick 15 mins" because it took 10 mins to get into a match!

I also thought up until now that the PS3 might be less influenced by the hackers. It was always a big problem before the likes of Punkbuster (and even then i can remember getting shot through walls from impossible angles) on the PC.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. I agree with the comment of a few ruining it for the rest. It's a shame. It's also ironic that the ones that ruined it for me last night didnt sound old enough to have purchased the game in the first place.

I played WOW for around 5 years i know what its like to be addicted to games.

The reason i purchased PS3/XBOX360 is for the same fact that you can get into the games quicker and put them down quicker when you need to, but tbh i'm not a massive fan of FPS on consoles cus i can't use the controllers properly, i am more of a Keyboard and Mouse person.

It is ironic and also moronic but these people do not realise a) the harm they are causing b) that there is strong potential they will get banned and their consoles bricked.

I really hope so. Its not fair really. Kids that age have far more time for practice due to not having jobs/a house to maintain so they are all better than me .

ahahahahaha, thats awesome! Never even thought of that! I have asked a few if it wasnt past their bedtime but never thought of insulting the 'rents!

Although, that could be dangerous now. There is a post on that reddit forum of someone who ended up on rank 1 after sending a hacker a message through the PSN. Dont know how they would do this though? Surely that info is held on the server and is updated when you log in? 

I would assume those in the know disconnect their 360s from Online until a new firmware arrives.

Yes it gets them around the problem for a time but M$ are never very mouthy over when the ban wave is coming - in fact I've never read anything about it until its happened and I follow xbox scene and few other sites often.

Even if they do think "oh its about time to get banned, will disconnect and wait for patch" it means we get a bit of them not online
