DNSs
on: May 18, 2009, 15:24:43 PM
I know that there are certain DNS servers that people recommend above others.

Today my work has ground to a halt as pages that should work arent found, only to be refreshed and then appear etc. I swapped my router over to my backup thompson, and did a diagnostic, and its highlighted the secondary DNS as being "bad", which I kinda presume could be the cause of whats going on?

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can suggest the best DNSs to switchy to. I cant find the setting on my thompson router, but I have found it on the netgear router...

Cheers, swapped to that, will have to see how it goes, and maybe look into the "parental control" to piss my dad off when he tries to look at porn late at night...

The controls are pretty good. I use them at work for a fairly robust content filtering system.
Obviously if you know how to change the DNS on a per-machine basis you can by-pass the system but its still a good starting point.

My dads a retard. Ill be surprised if he can figure it out. He still clicks back in the browser till he hits the home page before exiting the web browser :|

The one thing I am trying to figure out is how is opendns free? Where do they get their money from? I presume itd be possible if they were even slightly dodgy to easily harvest demographic data as a minimum?

I think (not certain) that it is a business-pay-for-support system.
