Excel chart question
on: September 20, 2010, 09:37:21 AM
Maybe a numpty question...but is it possible (and how?) to produce a scatter chart with a single data series, but with different symbols based on another series?

So say I have a dataset of average heights of people, I have also recorded their gender and age. I want to plot their height against their age as a scatter plot, but have pink symbols for the females and blue symbols for the males.

Proper stats programs make this pretty easy from memory (its been a while) but I want to produce a few dozen charts quickly and easily to just get an initial overview of trends, for some reason I think its possible but Im getting no where with what Im trying!

heh already solved it, typical.

Just used a different data series for the different symbols. I was getting confused I think as in the stats programs (Surfer, and SPSS(I think)) you just say what you want X and Y to be, and then theres another box which you select for symbols, job done.
