Must admit buying a phone because it looks nice boggles my mind. Its just a lump of plastic and metal that does something. Its flat. Its rectangular. Has rounded edges. If you want to fork out £££ because that looks "good", more fool you. If you want to fork out the moolar based on its functions, kudos. ..If I want to buy something that looks nice, Ill buy a print or vinyl or something ><

Easy way to settle this really.

Do you like the way you could customise every aspect of Windows Mobile?
Get Android.

If you just want to pick it up and use it, no messing, no fuss, just one bottle in the shower?
Get iPhone.

Ive been very much liking what ive seen from Windows Mobile 7 so far, im very keep to see if the final release is as slick as the demos suggest and if its gets paired with any equally impressive hardware.

I dont think id ever go for an iphone because I like to play with my phone, i cant stand how restrictive apple are. If i had an Apple desktop/laptop Id probably get an iphone as the work together seamlessly and efficiently, but i dont for the aformentioned reason. I also like having a keyboard, especially when a phone is designed to handly emailing and office docs.

You also instantly look like an untechnical, uninformed, bandwagon jumping, smug fashionista as soon as you pull an iphone out of your pocket.

My 2p.

Its very much a case of not being able to have my cake and eat it I think.

On the one hand I love the freedom that Ive had in WinMo. On the other, I hate the clunkiness of it, with so many settings and configurations buried away under several layers of menus.

Id love to have something easy to use like the iPhone but with more freedom ><

Winmo7 has copied the apple way of thinking.
Very restrictive, no copy/paste, no multitasking, but it is very flash.

It does sound like Android is the phone for you, be it the Desire or the Legend.
Personally, Id go for the Desire and flash it with a "Google Experience" Rom, although Sense is very very good.
The Google Experience phones seem to get all the good updates, Froyo is due out soon.

They even have have sections on XDA-Developers.

I want the wifes new phone, and shes looking like shes not a big fan of it.  If she decides to keep the iPhone Im swapping the Blackberry for the HD2!

Looking at the deals and total costs of contracts it looks like the cheapest option, bar any offers O2 might make come renewal time, is to buy the phone (Desire) outright and go onto their 12 month simplicity tariff. £15 a month for 12 months = £180. + £400 = £580 total. Compared to the 18 and 24 month tariffs which range from working out at £600-£750 over the time period.

The HD2 has more memory than they advertise, they just lock it away.  You can reclaim this extra 128mb by going to the xda-developers.

With some of what is mentioned, do not forget about OS 4.0. It will have multitasking along with a number of other updates.

I looked at that, though Ive got an 8Gb in the blackberry already.  Im considering a move off Blackberry for my next contract anyway, I want a change.  Ive had a BB for just over 2 years now, but Ive 11 months left on the my existing contract.  Might just have a poke around and see whats going that I like.

on my iphone...
Whatever flavour of the week game I decide to play
Tomtom
stanza/kindle
sky+ (you can sky+ from your iphone)
tv catchup (though its really just a link to a website - but streams the UK terrestial channels in realtime)
justin.tv
skype
wunder radio
photoshop mobile
digital clock radio (handy for an alarmclock if you have a dock with speakers)
and I have an astromony thing that ive never used, but at dusk, you can point the phone to the sky & it will overlay the star constellations - but the iphone camera doesnt work to well
when it gets dark.

think thats about it!

OK, Ill take a look at that.  It says it has 512 in the OS, so I assumed that was just a standard for it!

Well Ive had a Desire for 48 hours now, and Im liking it :D

Even though its bigger than the X1 (except in depth) its lighter. A nice bigger screen with multitouch and all the other bits and pieces youd have thought should be in the X1 are there, like the accelerometer etc.

Im liking the level of complexity to the system, Theres a lot you *can* fiddle with, without getting to the level of WinMo. Am also liking the back/home buttons etc.

Overall, yay. Only problem so far is the lack of accessories, in terms of cases for them. Ive got a screen protector, but could do with something a bit stronger for when Im out and about!
