Have just got a desire too - definitely impressed too - has to by far the fastest phone Ive used which is handy to cope with the proper multitasking :)

Overall Im well impressed.

i has one on my iphone.. fanta tastic

Aye, I think these are the best for screen protectors. What I was meaning though is more of a rigid case so that when inevitably something heavy falls on it in my bag when Im out working (Or I sit on it), it wont snap :D

Maybe Im being over protective, Ive never had a phone break on me before except for the x1 which would crack if you so much looked at it!

Id agree about the desires speed. The X1 had various 3d scrolly things, but you could easily see how much it struggled with them. This is seemless :D with any luck Ill be able to keep this phone going longer than the 12 month contract :D

If I absolutely had to have one then Id go for the HTC. It loses out on ease of use but is considerably more powerful because of it according to reviews.

Looking at the deals and total costs of contracts it looks like the cheapest option, bar any offers O2 might make come renewal time, is to buy the phone (Desire) outright and go onto their 12 month simplicity tariff. £15 a month for 12 months = £180. + £400 = £580 total. Compared to the 18 and 24 month tariffs which range from working out at £600-£750 over the time period.

what you gonna do for data? cant see it mentioned on the O2 site?

You just freaked me out for a second there when I couldnt see it either, but its the simplicity tariff for smart phones you want:

http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/simplicity/smartphone/12_months

£15 a month for 12 months gives you 300 mins a month (more than enough for me) unlimited texts and unlimited data.

Will be nice in 12 months time to hopefully still be using the desire and just paying £15 a monthly, rather than being tied into another 12/18 month contract again (I am assuming once contracts lapse it just goes over to a monthly charge, rather than a new contract)

The one thing I will say against this though, is that buying the phone outright makes me feel its less "protected". On a contract if it went wrong Id have no qualms sending it in to get fixed/replaced. Technically its covered under warranty buying it outright, but its just got a little less peace of mind this way if you get my meaning.

thanks for that, good find. im going to the o2 shop tomorrow to save me 30 quid a month.

think ill try a desire out, see what i think. if i like it great, if i dont then ill sell it, sell the iphone3 and still get an iphone 4 for not a lot of cash.

Is going to be possible to flash the new upgrade onto an existing HTC without rooting etc?

No,  You need to root it to install the recovery image.
From the recovery image, you can flash anything.

IMO, you should have the recovery menu anyway, just in case.  Even if you update with an official rom and it goes wrong, the recovery menu will give you a second chance.
