Ipod nano dead

my 4th gen ipod nano went off for no apparent reason while I was in the gym yesterday, I just assumed the batt had died, even though it was charged a couple of days ago.
Anyway plugged it into the computer this morning to charge it up but nothing happens, the computer or itunes doesnt notice it is plugged in and ipod doesnt turn on or start charging.
Ive tried resetting is as per apples website, press and hole menu and centre button but that didnt work.
any ideas?
