I agree, why mess to much in this area? There are dedicated things out there, There are decent 5.1 systems that are cheap. I remember that set Nige Linked some time ago going for £20 reduced price a few of us picked up. I still use that on my pc and it does the job well, not bad sound at all. Replaced some of the speakers with better since though but still. You can get nice ones for not a lot.

LCD tvs are getting slimmer, I think My samsung has pretty good sound really, and the one upstairs does as well. Why mess with the audio when your building a tv to much and you got the licence costs ets if you put anything more stuff in them that will bump up the overall cost they got to sell the tv at.

Even worse is that they have pushed the speakers onto the back in order to keep the surround to a minimum. This is OK for bass, but the highest frequencies tend to get absorbed by the wall.

The speakers are just screwed onto the plastic of the case, which has been happening since the first wood cased sets. Putting any cheapo speaker into a random box isnt good for its sound output. Putting it into the right box can hide its worst qualities and enhance its best.

On the other hand most people dont actually care about sound quality that much, note the number of people still listening to tinny little radios pushing out fm.

Can someone tell me what the TVs with DLNA are like. Does it work well? ie. Streaming films/tv from your PC?

Only used HDMA leads with my big LCD in the living room, works fine from a PC.

Great picture but sound from even relatively cheap external speakers more than beats it though. Personally I would put a small form factor, low noise PC in the living room and network if you need to, or use a mobile USB drive.

Bored so...

Screen:

If you wanted to go for an LCD (LED sidelit)"

Link:PCR Direct - 1099

If you wanted to go for a plasma you could go for something like...

Link: PRC Direct - 919, 5 year Panasonic warranty instore

Amp:

Onkyo TX-SR507

Review: AV Forums
Link: Ebuyer - 257

Small/micro surround speakers + sub:

KEF KHT1005.2

Review:
Link: eBay (New) - 299

Kefs entry level egg surround package - these are usually in the 380-450 range. Obvioulsy not the best in the world, but youll enjoy them none the less.

HTPC:

ASRock Ion

Small, silent, cheap + plays HD easily.

Review: Tweaktown
Link: Eclipse Computers - 218

So with the Plasma option itd be 1693 for a full setup or 1873 for the Samsung LED option.

Here is my argument for the projector. Mine is a Panasonic PT-AE1000E 1080p.

Just put this up this evening.

What size screen is that?
I dont have enough throw distance atm, so my projector is only about 25% bigger than my 50" plasma, so its
reduntant atm

Its between http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/8986549/Samsung-Series-6-650-46-LE46B650-HD-1080p-Freeview-LCD-TV/Product.html or http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/8986605/Samsung-Series-7-7020-46-UE46B7020-HD-1080p-Freeview-Ultra-Slim-LED-TV/Product.html

I can get the LED for £1400 but its justifying spending an extra £400 for it over the other.

Did you go down to a store to look at them and compare? you should you could get it cheaper, tell the ones in the store what price you can get it for online! even go the effort and fine the cheapest price and print it out and show them!

Kunal as some good advice but let down by knowing down to much detail... basically if its not techonolgy he owns are would consider geting, it complete sh*t in his world.

I would get the latter, the new ones are dam sexy and I like the cable and port placement and organization on them. Menu interface is snappier then the other as well.
