LLU confusion
on: January 31, 2008, 12:04:23 PM
Ive currently got AOL broadband but they are quite expensive and they are limiting my connection. Im trying to find out what other operators I can get.

SamKnows says I cant get anything, but I already have AOL and my uncle (on the same exchange) has Orange broadband.

Orange site says the cover me, O2 do not. Unforchunatly im an o2 customer - not orange. I phoned O2 and they confirmed they dont cover me but im not sure why.

Any ideas why there is confucion?

LLU means local loop unbundling.

It means that your supplier has to have their own equipment in your local exchange. Openreach (the part of BT that own all the wires in the ground) would then physically move the pair of wires running to your house into the new suppliers hardware.

If o2 dont have kit in your exchange you cant get o2.

Seems Orange have the kit in there but not o2.

However, i would never reccomend anyone to buy broadband off a mobile phone operator. Only heard bad things about them.

Dont forget that theyre cheap for a reason.

except O2 use Be Theres MSANs, though i believe they are actually doing some enforcement of The Rules with people.

after actually looking at that I would suggest that the AOL and the Orange are actually on IP Stream connections.  Im guessing you live in the geographical middle of nowhere?

Pretty much, but im only a few hundered meters from my exchange, only 1 house is closer to it so I was hoping for some reasonable speeds.

I think were paying AOL £10-15 a month for a capped and limited 2Mb connection. Im sure there must be better options available.

also, if sky havent unbundled the exchange youll still have to pay BT line rental on top of the package, plsu £10 IIRC to Sky for not being on their physical service.

"You can get Sky Broadband Connect. You have been offered Sky Broadband Connect because you are not in a Sky Broadband network area."

So kind-of. Im not a sky subscriber either so its not ideal. Seems its pretty tricky to get unlimited internet round here.
