Need a new computer chair
on: February 05, 2013, 03:16:36 AM
I stretched earlier in my current one and the lower section of one of the arms snapped  as I leant back, the bit at the base of the seat that holds the back on to the seat.

I have had this chair 11-12 years it was a post made on the bargains forum on one of the earliest incantations of this forum, quite a few members got one, it was about 100 quid from Viking which was very cheap for a high back leather chair back in the day.

Mine still looks good apart from the broken arm, the leather is in good condition and the padding fits me perfectly after all these years of daily use! lol

My nephew also got one the leather on his wore out and got a new one when he left home in 2007, since then he has spent about 100 quid near enough every 18 months -2 years on sh*tty ones that just don't last.

Looking for something that is comfy but up to extended daily use,  I really don't mind sticking my hand in my pocket, not looking for 10 years+ but 4-5 would be nice.

Cheers  :)

We got an executive chair that to start with in the shop was really comfy. I only problem was that after 10+ minutes the sloping back gets really annoying for computer work, and so don't make the mistake I did!

I have a Gallow/Galloway exec office chair for a couple of years, and there's a tiny bit of wear on the stitching, that's it.

I tried it out at a local place in Nottingham and bought it on the spot, just under or around £100

This in black,

I've tried those before and they are very comfortable, gets my approval too.

My current chair is a Staples type one but one of the more premium ranges, retailed for about £200 but I got for £100 ish off ebay, it's well worth looking on there for a collection bargain from someone local.

One like this but in Chestnut leather, pretty mint condition other than a scratch on the back and still feels sturdy as the day I collected it 2 years later:

God knows why it was voted cold on HUKD.

Simplistic, nice to look at quite supportive, but it's not something you'll sink into.

The Viking Chairs are good quality, usually you can get them with stronger metal arms and caster legs, bought one up Knighty's for £40 ish, and i got 2 at home for £40 locally, utter bargain at £40 each though, or the latest version of them.

I used to buy £100+ chairs but the Viking ones are as good as, if not better.

If you find one in their Clearance section is it called Malkolm X? (might only be available in black though)

We have those at work and I know they are supposed to be good, but I don't find them very comfortable and my arse has fallen off to sleep in them!

I know, I'd rather sink into some deep-filled warm leather upholstery than park my arse on alu mesh, regardless of how good it is for my spine.

Im still using a staples 'ops' chair that i got some 11 (probably closer to 15) or so years ago for what woud have been sub £100 lol

Now that i work from home im sat in it all day, its creaky and looks tired but meh, it works.

Id like to upgrade but theres limited space in here and I dont have the cash to splash.. so until this one falls apart its staying, which could be another decade.

It's not aluminium well at least they don't feel that way. If anything they're too soft, allowing your arse to sink in relative comfort but causing the blood vessels on the back of your legs to get crushed on the edge of the seat leading to pins and needles and numb bum.

Very very springy and squidgy but sh*t to sit in for hours unless you tension everything "just right".

i am looking for one also, was looking at the ebuyer exec ones :dunno:
In all honesty i imagine an operators chair would be better for my work as i am in and out of it constantly (online sales, my evening gig)
