It is indeed back on, 3.61 software update when you sign in.

edit, odd, it lets you download the software update but when you try to sign it says that it's undergoing maintanence, likely being switched back on per region as the video suggests.

i wonder how this affected business for lovefilm - or netflix in the states.
I think Sony have handled it as good as they can, its going to be bad press all around.
Plus some nice freebies

As a compromise for the downtime, Sony is offering all users
1 free year of identity theft protection and insurance,
two free PS3 games from a choice of 5,
and a free month to Playstation Plus

quite a decent thing to do

FOr non PS games

SOE is offering a “welcome back” program for all Station account holders, including 30 days of free game time plus one day for each day the servers were down, or 15 more days. Players will also get 500 Station cash, SOE’s virtual currency, which can be used to purchase items in games.
Lifetime subscribers will received in-game currency instead of game time, since they are not on a monthly billing cycle.

A free month to PSN+ is a waste of time.
They should offer that to everyone anyway.

I also reckon, with how much they've lost and the cost of rebuilding the system that they'll start charging for PSN within the next 12 months.

Sony has announced the titles that will be included in its 'Welcome Back' programme for Europe and North America.

In Europe, PS3 owners can choose two of the following games - LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, Wipeout HD/Fury, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty and Dead Nation. In Germany, the games Infamous and Dead Nation will be replaced with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings.

In addition, European PSP owners can choose two of the following titles - LittleBigPlanet PSP, ModNation PSP, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation. In Germany, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody's Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party.

In North America, PS3 owners have a similar selection between two of Dead Nation, inFAMOUS, LittleBigPlanet, Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD + Fury. The North American PSP selection is identical to the European game selection.

The 'Welcome Back' titles will be available for 30 days after the PlayStation Store is back online, and can be kept forever.

In addition to the free games, all PSN users will receive 30 days of free access to PlayStation Plus. All existing PS Plus subscribers will also receive an additional free day for each day the service was down. Sony is currently working on a 'Welcome Back' package of Home DLC for users.

PSN services began to return over the weekend in Europe and North America. In Japan, PSN services are still offline.

Not quite, only multiplayer gaming is available. PS Store is still down.

As for the games they are giving away, for me it'll have to be Wipeout and Dead Nation as I already have the other 3. As for the PSP, I'll probably get LBP and Modnation

True, I got caught up with the excitement of it being logginababababble I didn't even care about the store  :heehaw:

I hope I'm not the only one here with accounts in other regions as well being as it's free to do.

I'm curious as to what my Hong Kong account and my Japan account get me, wish I made a US one now though

I have a US account but not a Japanese one. Sadly the US games offered are the same as the Euro ones.
