Sylk file format?! wtf..

I am trying to sort something out, involving exporting from an MsSQL database (MS... not My), into a format that can be imported into a current Access database table. Trying XML results in just wierdness happening in access. Complete wierdness. Its more preferable to export to CSV anyway, but when doing this excel complains that theres errors in the file, then says its a valid Sylk format but has errors, and tries to open it as a single field containing EVERY single database entry.
Opening it in notepad prior to using excel replacing the ; with , allows excel to open it up without issue, however ideally I want to be able to skip that step.
Also for null values SQL literally fills in a
value for it. I need it kept empty and free of any input.
