No, thats it.  All TFTP does is serve the unit the boot file.

Now you need to get the latest firmware for the device from Buffalo and update it.

Downloading at the minute.

Does it matter that it cant be seen in nas navigator?  Used angry IP to scan the range but no IP address for it found.

Not sure.  Can you post a screenshot of the TFTP window?

It should look something like this :

See at the bottom where it gives the device an IP?

I have a flashing blue ligh on the unit, I rebooted it and got the 7 reds again, so done tftp again and serverd the blocks, just waiting on the firmware DL to see if I can re flash it.

No probs.

I should be online later, so Ill keep checking in.  If you get stuck, give me a shout.
I thinks its very difficult to kill one of these things, as the boot files are stored on the HDD as opposed to a chip.

Is it seeing the device far enough to pull in the boot files through TFTP?

In all honesty, I wouldnt worry at all about the data on the HDD.  If you download Knoppix, you can get the data off the drive before taking the drastic measures.

I had a unit that wouldnt read TFTP, couldnt force the flash or anything.
I took the drive out, removed all the partitions, put back in the box and it prompted EM mode, and a successful recovery.

Morning matey.

It  basiclly does what you have in the screen shot.  The only thing is, when I ran the TFTP boot, and piwered up the unit, I got the red lights after about 15/20 seconds.  So I hitthe fucntion button then tftp seemed to kick in.  Left a ping running constant to 192.168.11.150 to see if I got a reply.  No luck.

Debting about just letting the TFTP run over night and see if it maybe sorts it.

That does kinda sound fluffed.

Id download knoppix and have that standing by for disaster recovery.  Then once its safe we can do a manual flash.

Dude, its panic stations, got knoppix and went in to see if the data was there.  Not showing me anything on the disc!!

I have a USB caddy and the drive is plugged into that, windows see the disc in the computer manager but doenst recgonise the volumes.  Lnoppix sees the volumes, when I mount the volume it just says 991 free.  But for some reason it has the default share and spool folder so I dont know if the data is still there or maybe I have done something worng.  Complete linux n00b!!

Please help!!

That sounds bad!  The work we have performed so far will not have removed any data from the drive.

You need to "Find" this software : http://www.ufsexplorer.com/rdr_xfs.php
and that should recover everything.
