That new mouse feeling!

Just got a new Logitech G5 today to replace my Razr Copperhead mouse. LOVING IT.

In the past I had 2 wireless logitech media mice, they were great, but due to misued I broke them both, and they interfered a little with my wireless signal. I then went wired due to my network, and I was recommended the razr mice for sensitivity (which I wanted due to GIS stuff). I really liked the variable sensitivity options, as it allowed me to whack it up/down to go from normal use to uber slow detailed clicky work with ease.

The only bad things were it wasnt the most ergonomic of designs, and the buttons had become loose. Given my current jobs need for lots of clicking and dragging, having a mouse that sometimes doesnt click, and othertimes double clicks, and often would "unclick" whilst selecting text was driving me up the wall.

So I am now back to a logitech mouse. And I must say, its nice having a mouse that molds to your hand. The customisable weight thing I thought a bit of a gimic, but it actually is quite cool to get it just right. And the sensitivity options are much better, with only 3 (all you need really) and the buttons to change on top!

I also recently switched to a Saitek Eclipse 2 keyboard, which is kinda cool, but I dont like the volume change touch sensitive controls, Id much rather have buttons or a wheel or something, as its too fiddly to change colume on the fly, I am finding I have gone back to changing it on the speakers unless I am using my earphones with the speakers off!

How about you guys, how are you finding your interface devices?

I like this

and I just got one of these to try out; instead of four pads it has two huge areas for contact.

Its an Intellimouse explorer for Bluetooth. It only comes with the bluetooth keyboard in a set. I got it for free when another MS mouse I had packed up (which I since repaired), and I claimed warranty under MSs lifetime guarantee. They said, have you been inconvenienced by this?, so I said you bet; and they said well send you a £100 Bluetooth set as compensation. 8-)
I think clearly its biased right handed but you could use it; the forward/backward buttons would be on the wrong side.

G5 and a Saitek Eclipse II here. I always use Logitech mice and being able to clip in the weights makes the G5 much more tactile. Ive no interest in wireless gear so it was an obvious choice really and is incredibly comfortable even for all day use.

The Eclipse II is a nice, comfortable keyboard that just does what it says on the tin really and has some bells and whistles added. Once you get over the pretty lights its just another keyboard. Make sure you keep a can of compressed air handy because it attracts grime like no other keyboard Ive owned.

I actually thought about the G7, as on ebuyer their weird pricing system meant it was like £1 cheaper at the time. However in the end the angular appearance of it made it look a little uncomfy, and that would be too much like my old copperhead. (Seriously, on that mouse they had some see through strips on the left and right with lights in, that stuck out quite sharply, where your thumb should be!)

After using this mouse for the last week, the honeymoon is over. Its a damned fine mouse, but there is just something not quite right about the placement/location of my pinky finger.
