Virgin Media offering TV but no internet
on: February 05, 2011, 16:34:51 PM
So im moving house and im happy with my current Virgin deal. Ive called them to transfer them to my new place. They're claiming they can provide TV and phone but not internet. I cant think of any way that they can provide TV by cable, with on demand and all that but no provide internet down the same cable?

 Anyone got any ideas?

Afaik they can also offer a service using ADSL and BT backbone, i think.

Seems very odd to me.

Odd as it sounds they have been saying and doing this ever since that were NT? (think that was what they were)

They wont bother sorting the cabinet out and just stick you on an overloaded one that will just handle the TV and it will be crap jutter quality half the time and the line wont be great either.
Been there had that, no net and then changed to sky and pipex when it happened to me. Not the last time I heard it or when it became Virgin too.

I know a few people who have worked for cabletel/NTL & basically as people cancelled their accounts, they didnt bother disconnecting the actual cable from the cabinet.
A new customer would be put into a new socket. Theres tons of cabinets which are not labelled up & no idea who's cable goes to who's house.
A lot of this was put down to dodgy installers offering free cable (both Analog & Digital NTL had been hacked up until they swapped to Nagra 3 last year).
The cabinets are basically a mess.

I Can believe that as well because NTL did exactly that, They just turned up took the box and canceled the account (after a few weeks of moaning on the phone) and left all the cabling and as you say I bet they did exactly nothing in terms of physical disconnection. I can see your spot on their Egg.

So they're sending out a local engineer to see what the deal is. I'm not hopeful that i'll hear anything back soon, they have a terrible record of getting back to me when they say they will.

He willtell you the box is full and they would have to upgrade it and tell you he hasno idea when at will happen. Egg will be right though where there will be loads of connections doing nothing lol.
