Wii controller add-ons (guns)
on: December 06, 2009, 16:28:43 PM
Last year I bought one of the light gun style add-ons for the wii controller for my dad for his birthday. My dad being my dad he managed to break it within a week by squeezing the trigger bit so hard that it snapped the plastic bit which depressed the B button on the controller ><

I am of the frame of mind most of the snap-on things are a bit gimmicky, but I did find the light gun thing added something to the games, and as its now coming up to my dads birthday once again I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a brand or specific add-on which is well built and will withstand what can only be described as a complete idiot using it.

Cheers, though I was more wanting opinions on specific ones from people who have bought/used them, and can say whether the trigger mechanism can stand up to someone who appears to have no sense of restraint/fine motor controls resulting in not gently squeezing the trigger, but instead pulling the trigger with enough force to actually tear the plastic on the device (no easy feat tbh). This same person will be getting a new sky remote for his birthday I think considering he has managed to press the play button hard enough, repeatedly enough, for it to almost not work any more.

Ive got the official one for Links Crossbow Training, and I use it in other games too.  Its fairly sturdy, but I doubt it would put up with being mashed as hard is you say it would get!

http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=NW0414&title=nyko_wii_perfect_shot_light_gun - thats the one I use. Really like it actually. Not sure itll take a hammering like you described but its certainly one of the better guns Ive tried.

This is a close up of the bit my dad broke ><

The yellow/freen gunk is milliput I put on in an attempt to repair it, which worked for me (using a normal amount of force) until my dad used it, at which point it just cracked AGAIN.

AFAIK its one of GAMES own brand things, was only cheap.

Basically the bit in the middle is the top bit of the trigger part on the attachment. When you squeeze the trigger (underneath) this moves back and pushes the B button (in case anyone couldnt figure it out).

The big "fin" down the middle pushes the button (I think) the small side ones act as a cut-off by preventing the user from squeezing too hard and breaking the controller. What has happened is basically along the base of that fin AND the side ones its cracked fairly flushly as a result of my dad squeezing it hard enough that theyve sheared as a result of hitting the base of the unit meant to prevent the controller from getting damaged by idiots like him. Basically it means that when you press the trigger, the crack widens so that the fin which should press the B button doesnt quite make it ><

Am guessing we should be fairly safe with one which uses a stronger mechanism than shown above, at the risk of the actual controller getting trashed.

Is your dad green with a tendency to walk round in short jeans and ripped shirts?
