Wireless Networking Link Speed Q
on:
May 28, 2010, 15:01:59 PM
Ive got a hateful Netgear DG834N router (Capable of 270mbps 802.11n) and an Atheros 9280 MiniPCI card in my Dell. This too, should do 270/300mbps.
Can I buggery get it to connect at the higher speed.
Any ideas?

Check in the router settings and your wireless card to make shure that the setting labelled something like "channel width" is set to high, or 40MHz or something similar, as with 20MHz mode (the same as wireless G) can only go up to 150mbps.

Youre going to get nowhere near 270.
Id hazard a guess at 90-150 on average.
You will only get fast rates on a dual-N 5GHz device. And then, it needs to be a very good one, like a proper trapeze access point.
You NEED 5GHz for the number of non overlapping channels.
