People have had their iphone through a washer and dryer and after its dried out worked along with many other devices that are solid state, it is nice to see stuff being more robust, gadget show likes doing strange tests and often finds that things not specced as heavy duty or what ever can actually take quite a few punches.

Aye, I remember seeing something where CF and SD cards were tested in cola overnight as well as shot with a bb gun and things and still worked once dry etc. But its another thing to encounter it first hand. My 400D camera was broken I think when I used a usb cable that had had 1 end in cola a few days prior. thankfully Canon swapped the PCB out for free hehe.

A magazine tested a load of cards and found out that, in normal situations, they were practically indestructable, this included putting them in boiling water and driving a car over them...

I think I saw that test, or one very similar. Didnt they end up concluding that about the only way to destroy the data was to nail the cards to a tree?

Theres a website out there for people to post photographs from memory cards that theyve had developed and some of the abuse the cards have seen is incredible. People have found cameras washed up on the beach full of all sorts of crap with barnacles growing all over the camera casing and the card still works, and in some cases the pictures are dated back quite a few years so you can reasonably assume the camera has been submerged in salt water for over 12 months.

:)

Think "the gadget show" did a destruction test on them. Think one CF card worked even after having a nail driven through it. :)
