neXus,

I cant be arsed getting into some elaborate quote filled ramblefest, but I will just simply state that live is a joke, anyone who pays £40+ for a game then pays microsoft for the privelage of using it to its full potential ie using it online is a muppet.

To quote this chaps article which makes some good points Paying for peer-to-peer online gameplay is a scam

ps I read 360/Bluray that article you just reffered to, I think it was on maxconsole

I really think anyone would have struggled to get the really big name titles second hand for £25 within days of release unless youre tremendously lucky! But yes if you go asian you really need to sell it on eBay when youre done, but the other advantage is you can get games a couple of weeks before theyre out here at times. Oh and chipping (flashed FW) makes no difference to the region free status of a game unfortunately :( it does not allow you to play any region :(

Your right you do have to be lucky - lucky and very patient!!

Must admit I didnt know that flashing the firmware (sorry I cant help but call it chipping - Im old skool!!) didnt open up the region encoding - how annoying!

Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

seems this has turned into a PS3 V XBOX 360 debate

Nige, just get a cheap 2nd hand PS2 - play your guitar game & decide what you want at a later date.

Id get a 360.  All games consoles since the dawn of time have been crap as movie players compared to stand alone.  If your that bothered about bluray buy a bluray player.  It will be better the PS3 anyway.  I seem to recall the PS3 not being compatible with bluray 1.1 content anyway unless thats been fixed.

Hardware wise the PS3 isnt as powerful as the 360 when its in used, it reserves a sh*tload of memory and a whole portion of the cell for the dashboard.
When that strikes, the 360 eclipses it.  All games look better on the 360, bar DiRT.

Theres only one reason to buy a PS3.  Thats if your a brand whore and have to have it because it says "SONY".
Can put it with your Civic, kerb chains and bangrha sounds.

If its just GHII, then get a PS2.  Or future proof yourself and get a 360.

If you want to experience the love of a 360, playing Halo3 on a 70" RPTV give me a shout. :D

The Blu-ray 1.1 content issue was sorted in the last major update for the PS3.

Id not recommend anyone get a stand-alone Blu-ray player at this point in time as they are either not profile 2.0 compatible or they have problems with playback of discs (mainly Samsung players). The best Blu-ray player available at the moment is the PS3 and its pretty much the only one which is guarenteed, or so Sony say, to be 2.0 compatible.

Assumption is the mother of all f**kups
Brothers got one gathering dust. About 15 games many are duplicated as to what I have on the 360.  Thats near enough me owning one. wheres yours then egg?
A handfull of my brothers friends have PS3s too, and when Im home they all want to play on my 360.

its utter garbage, my 360 pastes it every which way.

mine is on the list, but I dont see the point in getting one until I have 42"+ screen - dont really like using the projector for gaming.
Long way off yet.. still have to get a new toilet/cistern, real wood for 8 rooms, 2x fires & a kitchen :-D

but when I have played one, I have preffered it to my xbox. TBH though, I always go back to my PC - The games I tend to preffer work better with a mouse.

Fair enough :D.

Ive never been a sony fan tbh, but it used to be the only option.

Now thankfully theres more choice.

I played with both before buying the PS3.... In HD the Xboxs always seemed jittery and pixelated, not to mention it crashing frequently....

Thanks for all the opinions guys, they are much appreciated.

I did consider just buying a PS2 for Guitar Hero 2 Egg, but I figured if Im forking out cash for a console AND the game AND the guitar I might as well get a good console I can enjoy the latest games with (and potentially some movie playback, although this isnt going to matter for me at the moment since I dont have an LCD panel).

I also appreciate both sides of the Live play argument, but Im both not really that fussed about it and inclined to agree with Matt that I dont care for the idea of subscription based gameplay. I had my fill of that playing Ultima Online on the PC for far too long. But if thats your cup of tea and youre prepared to pay for a good online experience with other people then good for you guys :)

So far the X-box is looking like the better purchase to me, but Im glad Ive sparked such a good discussion of the pros and cons to each console. As Ive been out of the loop on consoles for a long time its good to see people mentioning past experiences, different revisions and future potential of each.

Oh yeah what does Flashing an X-box drive achieve?

Pointing this topic in a risky direction  theres little anyone could argue for to claim they use it for legit purposes, so I guess we should leave that at that :)

However, the xbox360 is an absolutely brilliant bit of kit, if it wasnt I wouldnt keep replacing them when they die :mutley: (again new falcons should sort this)

You can also do a budget HD option with a widescreen TFT monitor, its what I do and the picture is razor HD :ptu:  :ptu:  :ptu:

In an excellent piece of timing, this was posted today on maxconsole http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=25162 (with regards to 2nd hand 360s)

Oh, when are these new Falcons due? Yes I definitely wont be getting an X-box 2nd hand after reading that, if I do.

(Whenever I say that it reminds me of the Atari Falcon  :geek: )

They are about, All you have to do is look at the info label on the side of the cardboard box the console came in (team # lot label)look for the power info if it says 175w then that is a falcon chipset the older systems run on 203w or higher.
