Wossit like?

Im getting a big telly soon and wanna console and I was looking at the xbox but I dunno much about it.

Is it true you its kids screaming in your ears and geeks being gay? Is there any way of filtering it? I dont want gayness and screaming kids in my living room really. Can you turn it off so you only get the game sounds when you play online?

All I want is a footy game, a couple racing games and maybe a golf game. Would a ps3 be better for me? PS3 is kinda expensive but itll look better than the Dell GX360 cos its shiny black. Is all the 360s wireless controllers now?

Anyone know which is noisiest?

Wii is out, but only cos it dont play dvd (trying to minimise mess on the stand).
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I bought my first 360 2 weeks ago, so i can anwser some of this:

You have different zones you can select that basically matches player to player for co-op gaming, i chose recreation its like the part time gamer for fun zone, you can choose others like pro where you get people like neXus calling everyone noobs, or underground which as far i understand you can just do what you like, team kill and all the rest of it.

But by all means you dont need to co-op, ive had loads of invites i just turn them down and solo-play, i mean damn i played wow since the start but spent most of my time soloing so nothing will change now :P

As for games, ive not researched into it fully but 360 seems A1 for racing games, lots of big titles here and coming out in the future afaik. Footy and golf just dont interest me, sounds to much like hard work, exactly why i choose to play a console over going out and playing footy or golf lol. :P

The 360 itself is quite loud, i run the pc next to it and it drowns the sound of the pc when i have both of them running together.

Wii is aimed at group play and family games, 360 seems more aimed at the elitists, the noobs, the solo players and sometimes the co-op 2-4 man groups :D

You can play online without the mic, and anything voip you get kids screaming if your playing random stuff like on counter strike
Live is great and the Uk will soon get movie and tv downloads for points all in hd as well as hopefully more and fingers crossed divx support will come as rumoured and you can media stream stuff off your computer.

If you like black get the 360 elite.
wireless controllers are as standard on the 360 but you can get wired as well

Footy - Pro evo 08 is out soon
Racing - forza 2, PGR3 is out soon which is a bit more arcade like, tiger woods Demo I got off live, 3 holes but I like the look of it and the control scheme, if I not got my eye on other games and money spent on moving I would have bought that

Mass effect!

I would if your looking to get one get the hd-dvd player as well, It up scales dvds as well and some have looked really nice when I have tried them and hd movies are sweet (pre order the bladerunner special edition, its going to be amazing)

Ps3 and 360 are noisy buggers but ps3 is not as noisy

Cheers, you guys know any good links, like a crash course in 360/ps3 terms?

The 36 does look good but I dunno, lots of little things Im not sure about. Is it the dvd thats noisy or the fans? Can you swap stuff out?

I never read the manuals, but its pretty straight forward setting it up, if you messup a setting you can go back and edit later.

The 360 already upscales DVDs, if your using the VGA Cable.  It wont do it over Component/Scart

Is the black one worth the extra money over the other ones? edit; elite one. are they ltd edition?

Also, how does the live subscription thing work? Am I right in thinking theres a free version of it?

Will it just plug straight into my tft or will I need a cable?

Wheres best to buy one from?

There are 2 levels of Live. Silver gives you a friends list, ability to download games, demos, vids, etc and ability to chat with friends, send messages, etc. Gold, does all that and allows you to play online. You have to pay for the gold if you wanna play with friends over Live.

Depends what connections it has, but chances are its only got either DVI or VGA, in which case youll want to buy the Xbox 360 VGA cable as well as the console, unless you get the elite, then you could use the HDMI cable and buy an HDMI -> DVI adapter.

Im not getting one now, all the little problems with the idea totally clicked when I saw this Alex bloke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56-gQq62Hyc

Im toying with the idea of a PS3 but tbh Im trying to think of sommink better to spend £3-400 on.

That watchdog vid is 8 months old, since then MS have upped the warranty up to 3 years for the ring of death and have also updated newer xbox 360s with a better heatsink to stop the problem cropping up and have added other extras such as HDMI ports to the consoles.

I had a RROD yesterday, fresh AS5, and lighter fluid to clean the old stuff off, and added some compound to the memory chips, and its running a charm again.
