Xbox on the way out ?
on:
June 26, 2006, 19:27:24 PM
I think my trusty old Xbox is on the way out it was one of the first batch to be sold in the UK so it is getting on I suppose, anyway for a few weeks now I have been getting a random error message which says the game Im using is dirty or damaged which is wrong as I get this same error on other games and on the brand new Fifa 06 game I got not long ago.
And in the last few days Ive been getting an Error 09 and call customer support screen show up, it doesn?t do it all the time but I fear the end is nigh for my Xbox.

This is my big problem with disk based systems, both optical drives and hard drives, they have moving parts that wear out.
I have no doubt that my NES and SNES will far outlive my XBox360

Service Error 09:
Info: Harddisk parameters (PIO/DMA/or size). Certain minimum size is required for a debug BIOS. According to llamma.com, error code 09 means "Xbox motherboard is having trouble communicating with the Hard Drive...this is probably due to an ATA controller on the motherboard and not due to the hard drive itself." When the error screen appears, the light around the eject button flashes red instead of green. The disc tray will not open and the system will not boot up at all. You could also have corrupt EEPROM settings. Solution(s): Make sure the jumper is on cable select (the new harddrives have many different options that you can choose depending on the way you set the jumper ..so just check it ,make sure someone didnt get confused. Try replacing the IDE cable. Get EEPROM backup

MAke sure your HD is not locked to that motherboard, or you will have a hard time unlocking the drive if you wish to connect it to another Xbox.

No matter now it died completely last night it wont even boot to the dashboard and all I get is a Service Error 8 and 13 and from the error list i read that means it cant detect a HDD, so I opened it up destroying the shell in the process as it was a pain to get off and checked the HDD cables were all connected which they were so it seems the HDD is dead.
Ah well it had a good innings and lasted longer that a lot of the first batch Xboxs.
RIP 2002 -2006
Having said that my Atari 2600 and SNES still work fine even after being up in the attic for 10 years though as said before they never had moving parts like HDDs and Optical Drives.

How did you manage to destroy the shell?? Its 6 screws then lift off.
Is you Xbox Chipped? I doubt it since you had such difficulty opening it. It can be a simple matter of sticking a black HD in and prepping it and then copying the Xbox files on to the HD. Its not dead and buried.
Failing that, I know someone who may have the DVD drive out of your xbox.
