If you havent heard of it then its a full body movement detector, you dont hold a physical controller. You move, it sees and translates it into game movement. Looks promising for those that do have a full range of movement.

OK, its on the Xbox, but expect it to arrive on PCs within a fairly reasonable time limit, probably on other consoles too.

This might link in nicely with that simulated 3d vision thing using the Wii controller.

Some major flaws which are still occuring with Kinect.

-You can only use it when standing no matter what the game. This is due to having to detect your whole skeleton for it to work. This is fine for games involving you moving in a way to control things. Not so great for say driving games having to stand up whilst steering.

-Can get confused when people cross path or touch and can lose focus on people causing controls to completely go.

-The voice controls are not limited to a person so anyone walking around or within earshot of the system can shout commands at the xbox, fine if you have sensible people around. Useless if someone tries to be funny and starts shouting things around.

It is a very nice project, but the technology just isnt ready for this kind application. A bit like the wii when it launched where it didnt work anywhere near as well as people had stated.

I have more faith in the Playstation Move atm, but even that isnt 100%.

TBH for things like driving games surely the best technology will be a steering wheel with accelerometers in it, a la wii, rather than it noting where your hands are. Id imagine it would be fairly easy for them to code in an upper body or hands tracking script, rather than needing full body.

People that walk in front of me when playing games should know better.

And its just as likely for me at least to have people in the room try and grab my controller or throw things at me.

Im not a fanboy or anything, I wont be getting this any time soon after the release on the grounds of the xbox being in a room too small to use it ;)

At the end of the day it is all about the kit and coding and they have a few more months before release. Even when out just an pushed update to your console will improve it all the time.

The only huge downside is that they took the CPU out of it they planned to have due to costs. This was going to take the load of the 360 CPU which will take a hit. Full kinect use games will now not look as good or featured as they could have got. They have said though offset use in normal games are being worked on and things like waving on squad members in an FPS have been mentioned so it sounds like they are fully working on use when sitting down.
