Xp hangs on loading your personal settings
on: July 24, 2008, 21:01:47 PM
Right, story so far:

Parents computer. They had a message at boot from Trend chipawayvirus saying there was a boot virus. I booted anyway (no other option really) doing a full scan with Nod32 and it found 4 things, nothing in the boot sector. Reboot, still got the error, being lazy I disable the bios virus scanning and reboot. Now It appears that when clicking on a user to log in on the welcome screen, it just hangs indefinately with the "Loading your personal settings" screen.

Loading with "last known good configuration" works, but only for that boot. Is there any way to restore permanently to that point or anything? Any other suggestions?

Create a new profile using the admin login, then move all their data over to the new profile (outlook message, Favs, documents etc).  Then log in using the new account, and delete the old one.

Ended up booting with last known good config, creating a restore point, and then restoring to that. Seems to work, but my dads aold emails crash outlook for him and IE no longer works for him. Such a shame, guess it means hell stop wasting so much money on ebay...
