XP installation...
on: May 02, 2011, 22:13:12 PM
It's been a while since I did this, (reinstalling windows)...and I'm compounded by trying to do it on a netbook. For some reason I think that you can download Win XP from MS or somewhere as an installation thing, maybe as a developer or systems bod?

Reason I ask is I think my disc is scratched. I tried to reinstall windows using an external disc drive and kept getting BSODs...so got flashboot and copied the disc to a memory stick, reformatted ok and now it's BSODing the second it gets to setting up windows. I Still have my CD key, but need to find the data download link from MS...I think last time I installed it via USB stick, I think I might have done it this way then too, as I seem to recall that I had similar issues then. Any help offered is greatly appreciated!

Maybe it's not the disc but the fact it's such an old disc it's not even SP1...and the netbook needs SP1,2 or 3 minimum due to the hardware to install properly?

Would that install from scratch though without needing the original XP CD?

Either my configuration, or ISP, means Torrents aren't worth the time. Could take a month or more to DL 1gb...

Ended up using Nlite to slipstream SP3 into the XP disc I had as well as the SATA AHCI drivers that were causing the BSOD. All sorted now :)

I wouldnt, I always find puttin a SP over anything either breaks it or at the very least slows everything
down to doing a fresh install.
