Yes they do, they are going to be forbidden next year I think. This is my 3rd winter with nonstudded and it is fine.
The roads is a problem but it is the particles studs emit as they wear down which is the big problem, it is as bad as diesel particles.

+1.5° C and windy today, I rather have -5 to 10 and no wind.

Dont all the studded tyres and stuff chew up the roads over there?

Ended up having to defrost the ponds again today. Thankfully the PHD students are back tomorrow and so my responsibility is at an end!

6ft wide, 2ft deep, but not dug into the ground. They have a waterfall filter setup so the pump pumps water up into the box, where it then flows out the box pipe and back into the pond.

Ordinarily it wouldnt be an issue as the fish are hibernating, and the ice acts as an insulator. The problems are that as the ponds arent dug in, the sides still are cold so the insulation properties arent that great, and with the filter if it gets cold enough to freeze entirely over, the pumps will drain the water out from under the ice.

Simple solution is to just turn the pumps off, but they neglected to cover that. The ponds were infact an oversight that they told me about a few days in! Thankfully though hopefully theyll sort it out tomorrow. There are many issues I have with the setup, as its not very efficient and prone to problems (like this)!

In my BMW this morning the heater was blasting onto the window and the water was evaporating, I could see the steam. I thought DAMN thats a good heater. however it seems to blow heat onto the screen and then it cools down instantly. Its better if I blow the heat onto my feet.

While filming Die Another Day they got the cars fitted with special high grip snow tyres, problem was they were too good, the things wouldnt lose traction at all for the stunts. They had to get some less sticky ones sent out.
