Another one for the photoshop wizs
on: February 25, 2010, 22:34:33 PM
So Im putting together a new website for microphotography of british invertebrates...handily named British Invertebrate Microphotography (www.microphoto.co.uk) and I guess itd be quite nice to have a small logo.

Why not adopt this charming little fellow I thought:

Problem is I need to remove the background, and Ive never been any good at clipping things out like that. So, is anyone up to the challenge of creating a new image which just has the pseudoscoprion on it, the rest being the colour of the border of the image (IE, white?)?

I should add that it will end up being resized to something like 50x50 pixels...

Its a shame the image isnt sharper to begin with, what youre going to end up with (noticeably at the front claw/pincery things) is a lot of fade/blurring to white, I can tell you that before even having a go at it.

Aye, tis why Ive asked the masters to give it a go. I dont mind about the fade as I figured it must be possible to fade it into the white well. I have to admit I actually like the blur on the pincers a bit as it kind of makes it look like its trying to pince you, if you were looking down on it through a microscope :D

If its not possible to make it look good without too much effort though I guess Ill try and get my graphics designer friend to come up with a better mini-logo.

Unless anyone here wants to??? Design a logo competition anyone? The prize being a single kudo?

The site is about photos taken through microscopes of little critters from Britain, so thats the theme thats needed...

by the time its re-sized to 50x50...... you could do it in M$Paint and itll look good.... any imperfections will be so small you wont see them ?

itll only be this big.....

You could do it as a pure black vector logo, it would be dead easy to draw around it in Illustrator. Then it would be sharp and scalable.

Well any colour for that matter, once its vectored its all gravy.

Lol, not the 7 legged spider one?

And what part reminds you of it, the entrepeneur project or the request for free labour? Or both :|

neither, we just suspect that you plan to use the resulting picture of a pseudoscorpion to pay your water bill!

Nearly, hes "working on it". Which is good enough for me, its not like the site cant go live without a logo.

As to paying the bills, yeah Ive put google adsense on there and theres potentially some information & images that the forensic entomologist at uni had said could be made available on a pay per view basis, but thats a long way off and I entirely doubt I will get enough traffic for adsense to even cover the cost of the hosting ;)
