The Dutch have actually been checking up if its legal under their and EU law. Looks like it is.

There is nothing in the Koran that says women have to wear one or even should wear one. Really its an optional extra that has been tagged on.

I actually put up a joke other uses for a burqa which included the obvious terrorist implication in the Mods Lounge and one Mod went ape over it. Despite the fact he had put up a load of Christian jokes.

Anyone noticed despite the Koran supposedly being copied perfectly down through the ages there is a load of different spellings for the title?

As language evolves the translations change for words. I mean If people have trouble reading Chaucer and that was done 700 years ago then how can something NOT have undergone modifications.

I knew this was going to come to a head, Muslims getting all worked up with trying to impose their "ways" on foreign society. Its just the lack of humour/reason/logic of these "clerics" who simply cannot accept anything other than a bigotted belief that their religion should supercede others cultures.

Cheers

Christians, Jews and other religions have the same issues. Scientists who claim they dont believe in a god can be the worst of all.

Let the Christians dress up in big yellow circles with a pizza wedge cut out, with the secularists wearing simple white dots. Hindus get larger dots, and are required by law to carry chilled Red Bull for the Christians.

Party!

Wrong ! optional extra ? id like to see you prove that statement

The various spellings are due to the fact that there is not a perfect translation of the arabic word for Quran, hence the Koran, quran, kuran etc etc

Says most of the Islamic faith, if they dont wear it then its optional at best.

Although the whole book is so loose you could probably use it to prove white is black and pink is no colour.

Terrorists have used it to hide their identity when making suicide attacks already. It is an ideal way to conceal who you are.

Provide some actual proof that the Quran says the veil is an optional extra ?

Have you actually studied the whole Quran ? your answers sometimes are just ridiculous.

I dont get this mode of thought. the argument is that because the burqa is optional, they dont have to wear it, so its OK to ban it? I mean its not like were talking about carrying a samurai sword here is it?

If its ok to wear mini skirts and lovely lovely mid-driff tops (:)), why not the opposite? if someone chooses to cover themselves, why the outcry? What, people are offended by someone being covered up? How bizzarre.

And er re the terrorist using them to hide their indentity. Oh please, give me a break. Not like our army other militia or armed forces wouldnt use disguises is it? I gather the SAS dressed up as Iraqis to carry out extra judicial assasinations, a great argument for banning Arab/Iraqi clothing too i guess...

P.S. oh damn, i missed my once in a lifetime opportunity to qoute that phrase.. "Those who trade freedom for security do not have nor deserve either". (:))

Ill be the fist to admit that i think wearing a full on ninza suit is plain stupid & that people who do are complete bints so to speak.

But FFS in a free country it is completely thier choice to wear one. If this happened over here then Id be on the side of the radical clerics & mad mullahs tbh..

What next - stop black people from wearing hoodies?

well, i know you arent allowed to go into certain places with things like ski-masks or motorcycle helments, banks, service stations etc.

Now i could understand the reason in similar situations, but an overall ban seems a little ott.
