Corrupt CF / Lost pics problem

Nikon D70 decided it couldnt write to the card yesterday, I turned it on and off a few times and reseated and eventually it started taking photos again.

When I looked at the card on the PC I had a new folder 100NCD70 with the photos I took after the problem occured, and the old folder 100NCD74 which I could not access, some kind of inaccessible windows error.

I ran a Windows repair which told me it fixed some errors and I would find recovered files in the /found folder but there is no /found folder. The 100NCD74 folder is now accessible but empty.

The only glimmer of hope is that the used space still shows that the files are there somewhere.

I've tried programs ZAR, Free Undelete and PhotoRecover but none of them find anything.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what type of recovery those programs use, but you will probably have more luck carrying out a raw data recovery...

I usually use OnTrack Easy Recovery Pro with fairly good results, although some times it doesn't work so well..

Sadly not, i ran ontrack took 10 hours or so which recovered a few gb of jpgs but for some reason no raw files.

Gave up on it and formatted. Not an epic loss but an annoyance.

Lesson learnt.

I got a voucher for a year subscription to some data recovery software with my last Sandisk CF, let me know if you want it, as I expect I wont use it? Might be able to get the raw files as well?

Thanks for the offer but i've formatted the card and started re-using it now so I doubt there's anything left to recover. I'll try and replace it soon to reduce the change of a recurrence.

I've had issues before with a card when I just deleted all the pictures off it and reused it. Seems they prefer to be reformatted rather than "delete all". No issues since.
