Being accident prone and being a nutter are two different things. :P

They are not mutually exclusive though. Alan sits in the middle of that chart!

paracetamol is included because it increases the effect of the other drugs without any side effects

I re-typed my earlier posts about 3 times each because I didn't want to dismiss the pain he's in, but I posted anyway because if he takes all those for 2 weeks, as soon as he stops he'll feel like he's been hit by a truck

Paracetamol in high doses can kill, high being 16 tablets. It can also cause damage over time if excessively taken.  They often prescribe it just in case it will make a difference and sometimes even if it is known it won't. It is often used by doctors as a placebo substitute. The research isn't complete yet and needs more work. Then there is getting the message out.

The opposite side is that going back early can turn a temporary injury into a permanent one, or make it worse. I used to work on ambulances and have seen this many times in the health service. The want is to get back into work, prove yourself and do stuff, which might be the worst thing possible.

A little update

I am now taking, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Naproxen. i have cut the codeine out unless i feel i need a boost. The Amitriptyline has been increased to a dosage of 3 per night, lastnight i noticed i slept far better, and this morning until the Amitriptyline wore off, i felt much more able bodied.

I am still in a lot of pain and still have a lot of trouble walking, i have also noticed that the more i bend my left leg the pain increases and most of the cramping i am having is in the left side of my back.

The Dr told me to come back in and perhaps try some different pills, they have offered Diazepam and Liquid Morphine.

Diazepam is a muscle relaxant... but it messes with your brain too (they give it to depressed people too)

Liquid Morphine, must be oramorph ?  depending on your dose, it'll stop all the pain dead 10min after you take it, it's seriously powerful stuff... if you take it be careful you don't work too hard / do too much while you're pain free and feeling great because you'll make your back worse working too much too soon

did the doc say anything about phisio ?  a decent phisio can give you some exercises / stretches etc.. to do which as dumb as it sounds will make a big difference.   you should be able to get a phone number from your doc, or just the doctors office, you phone up and make your own appointment no hassle etc.

I went out the other day for a walk around the supermarket which was a chore, and in the night i was in agony.

Today i decided against calling back for the stronger pain killers as taking more of the muscle relaxant before i goto sleep seems to be doing something as i feel much more able in the mornings.

I will see how it goes this week, as for Physio i am on the list which is currently 8 weeks.

That is what I wanted back in 1996 when put on the sick by the doc, was hoping a few weeks and back to work. Sick pay is sh*tty.

Other muscles than your back ones get overused thats why the pain in the leg.

This can also indicate a trapped nerve. Then sometimes pain can also be transferred to different parts of the body, either further away from the injury or back along the nerve path.

Diazepam is Valium, a drug much used in anxiety disorders, alcohol withdrawal and as a muscle relaxant. As with liquid morphine both are addictive and should be taken carefully. That the doc is offering you this combination indicates that the problem probably isn't going to just go away quickly.

SSP changed this year, originally your employer pays you SSP and then claimed it back from the government, but now it all comes out of the companies pocket... if your boss was a decent guy and you're not going to be off for too long (6 months etc..) they'd normally pay you more than the SSP (the extra coming out of the companies pocket)

I will have to see what happens regarding pay.

Also, i suspect there is nerve damage as well, as it feels like it.

I didn't call the Dr back yet, will see how it goes until next Monday
