ebook readers?
on: October 24, 2010, 17:28:25 PM
It struck me today that potentially something like the Kindle would be pretty useful for me, as text/reference books are pretty expensive, and rather than having to lug around a small library having all my reference material in one small package would be pretty cool. The only downside is that theyre black and white screens. If it was colour I probably would have bought one by now as itd be handy for identification.

Im just curious if anyone uses a kindle or anything similar and what you think of them?

Yeah I have kindle for Android, problem is Im debating how viable the 6" Kindle screen is for reference books, so reading them on my Desire is pretty out the window!

Are there any brick and mortar stores that stock Kindles? I guess I really need to see one in the flesh to see how practical they can be.

Id thought about an iPad for all of 5 mins too.

one of my collegues has just got one. He says its great for fiction/ebooks which are designed for it but he tried downloading a journal paper to it and the screen is just too small to display a whole page at once, which leaves you panning around which doesnt work well on the Kindle screen.

Id love one for taking on holiday with books on it, cant see it being much use at work ATM though.

Thats what I feared. Oh well, I guess in the long run the bulk of a real book is offset in that if you look after it you can sell it on.
