Friend just got one. Very sleek looking phone, and does the job however some glaring omissions summed up quite well here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/148250/10_things_the_3g_iphone_is_still_missing.html

I love (sarcasm) how there is no "closing" of applications lol, quite irritating to be honest but thats just from a user interface standpoint and the GPS lock is so quick on it, that it must always be on (warm startup), meaning that battery life cant be that great unless theyve crammed a nice big battery under the hood.

Other than that, credit where credit is due, its a nice phone... just not worthy of the hype surrounding it.

They have increased the battery life and you can also control the GPS, Wifi etc in the settings to be on at starup, scan etc.

The app store does simplify things nicely.

My better half is a pharmacist and shes looking forward to getting one. This is mostly down to what a doctor showed her on the ward recently; an application hed installed with the entire BMF (database of drugs and all details related to each - most medical professionals use it in book form, its one of their bibles to a degree) on his iPhone. For her this is a godsend for quick checking, especially with the simple to use interface.

We all know anyone can install applications on other platforms but its the ease of viewing which applications are available and the interface to use  them which is going to be the main selling point for a lot of people.

Keep in mind that she is a technophobe - I didnt even mention it to her, she came to me singing its praises.

Yeah but thats just a monopoly really on iphone apps.

Check Handango.com or pocketgear and youll likely find apps for WM devices that do the same.

Can someone clear up a few questions (cant be arsed to trawl through this entire thread)

1) Does iPhone 3G support MS Office doc viewing?
2) What max up/down stream bandwidth does the 3G support?

No not Bold. Stuff is starting to leak through on the various tech sites regarding the device which I speak of (Im being overly paranoid out of fear of being shot).

To be released soon.

Seems the US power plugs they have supplied are duff, the pins break off...

Apple on Friday recalled all power adapters it packaged with iPhone 3G phones sold since mid-July in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, and several Central and South American countries.

Its a design issue, where there is one there are probably going to be others.

OF course, Apple fan boys wouldnt give a damn about their stuff breaking down or if the service is shoddy.

Google android is now out with the HTC Touch with the slide out keyboard and you also googles own variation labelled the google phone which is similar but white and with slightly different hardware gubbins.
