Just had a go on an Ipad.

It looks and feels really awesome, really light and snazzy and its easier to type on than it looks in pics.. But it really is a giant iphone without the phone bit. If it wa £300 itd be 8/10 but £500 is a sh*t load to pay for whats under the shiny surface.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Great ornament/gadget imo. And plenty of Mac and iPhone owners that are used to paying for more for their toys.

It’s an over expensive toy for people with money to burn imo, nothing more. I wouldn’t even buy one if I had a spare £500 just lying about, as I can think of a hundred better uses for that money.

disagree with you all...
I love the apps on my iphone, just a lot are to small to use affectively.

For the average person person its a perfect device for internet access & lots of simple
apps that make things easier to use. very user friendly.
I would love to get one, but would wait for the 3g/4g version.
yea its expensive, but look how much an iphone is not on contract. - not much difference then is there?

^ It would be if it was cheaper imo. Id get one if I didnt have 50 other things to spend £500 on.

I forgot, the keyboard/stand thingy is naff.

If I got one I could see myself using it quite a bit and would replace old copies of FHM as reading material in the toilet! If it was a bit more than netbook money, say £350 tops! I would deffo buy one, but at the money they are asking for a decent spec with 3g they can sod off tbh!

A lot are on their way and will handle flash if they use Android.
HP bought Palm and scraped their tablet with windows7. Cost to much for the licence and windows 7 is to much for a tablet. With webOS on it which will also run flash and with the OS and apps Drvien much by HTML5 , CSS and Javascript it will fly on a tablet.

Better tablets are coming and even from Apple. They already have working prototypes of the next 2 ipads. The next one will have a front facing camera as with the new iphone and support the coming apple default app - ichat.

Couple of my mates have one. Theyre no replacement for a laptop for proper stuff but for just browsing the web are great. Really easy to carry about. We were using it for planning a road trip and using gmaps.

This will not be the best tablet but it is the stepping stone for tablets now. They can be that thin and perform well and do a unique thing you can not quite do on an smartphone due to small form factors limitations but you are right Sam, these do not and wont replace a laptop.
People who moan about them in that way are just wrong because as of yet they are not supposed too.

Going to get your mum or nan something so she can email you and view the web and watch movies on or read a book on and actually be able to do it quite easily? - Ipad.
You can download things directly from the store on the ipad but you still need a pc or mac to set it up which is wrong, but once its going people can use it. Sit on the couch and just go do stuff.

Later versions and other tablets will include cameras and more so people can then skype call etc.

A lot of people do not need a PC/Mac or notebook/laptop for what they actually need it to do and so a tablet is perfect for this.
Most out and about trips you do not really need to take your laptop with you if your just going to read, watch some movies, show some images or a presentation to people and email etc.

I see them as a pc lite. Just wandering about, checking the news, browsing traffic, whatever. You wont be using it for web site design.

tbh if they added a proper keyboard, like those laptops you see which lets the screen unfold and twist, turning it into a tablet, itd be worth it. Might be a bit more bulky I guess though.
