Miracle Fruit?

Anyone tried it? Thinking of getting some for after dinner entertainment at Xmas.

http://health.howstuffworks.com/flavor-tripping.htm

About £1 a portion from some of the UK retailers ... although no safety guarantees.

"consuming the berry before a meal of sour palm wine and gruel"

Not a bad idea for bad tasting stuff.

Yeh, turns sour still sweet so apparently:

Guinness -> Chocolate milkshake
Vinagre -> Treacle
Lemon -> Sherbert

Think it would be ace fun. Downside is it makes wine taste putrid. Not so handy over Xmas, not sure there is a 2 hour gap when i dont be drinking wine.

http://miracleuk.info/ Looks to be one of the better sites to order from.

Intriguing stuff, sounds like you can plant the stone from within the fruit to grow your own after too  8-)

The link sexytw provides sounds like its freeze dried stuff, worth keeping in mind if you want to grow your own afterwards, Im guessing the downside if you buy fresh is it wont last anywhere near as long as the free dried stuff.

30 servings...tbh try some now and then at least youll have an idea of what youre getting your friends to try later, plus youll have an idea of sweet/sour things to try out with the guests...

Yeh, will give it a shot when I man up a bit.

Also, its finding a gap. Need to eat dinner first because it could ruin that then have 2 hours afterwards when i cant drink wine. Arent many evenings like that during the week.

Will attempt to try it tonight and let yall know.

Great stuff, let us know how you get on :)

I ended up myself getting some miracle frooties off eBay some double sized ones for £11 odd inc P+P though theyre from the US, so will probably come in 2022.

It seems that in the UK currently you cant sell the fruit, from miraclefruit.co.uk

After two years of trading and thousands of happy customers the British FSA has decided to prevent us from selling Miracle Fruit for the time being, we are challenging this absurd bureaucracy

Well .... I gave it a try.

First thing i tried was a slice of lemon, initially i thought i hadnt worked, it still made me wince. However i dont think i had left it long enough.

After a few minutes i was able to happily eat lemon, if anything it was unpleasently sweet as i dont have a sweet tooth. It was like over sweetened home made lemonade. Pretty exciting that it worked though.

I tried a bit on vinagre and it certainly took the edge off, i wouldnt say it tasted of treacle but it was a lot easier to drink.

The problem is as soon as these things reach your throat they are still the same and act the same so they make your throat constrict and made my cough a couple of times.

Didnt have much else to try so it wasnt overly exciting, tried banana, sweets, ham, chocolate, vodka and it all tasted the same as normal. Wine was indeed horrible as warned.

Im sure there is fun to be had in a group situation with a bit more preperation of foods to try. Ill be getting it out at Xmas again.

Good that it worked though, sounds a laugh :ptu:

Good point on it still being the same foods, I read about people drinking vinegar, eating tons of lemons etc, then wondering why they have a bad stomach  :disappointed:

It doesnt affect the food, it affects how your taste buds perceive the food.

It doesnt change vinegar or lemon into honey.

Yes, but its easy to forget that you feel the effects of acidic foods in your throat as well as your mouth. So even though you can swill vinagre or lemon juice around your mouth quite happily it can make you cough if you gulp it down.

Tried this Monday, get some.

Sarsons is too funny, tastes mild and sweet but  lemons are the best, taste like sorbet :ptu:

Had some other fruits, oranges, limes, tried some guinness (just tastes sweeter, not all this OMG VANILLA MILKSHAKE crap)
