This just makes me cringe. The thought of anything beyond a simple filling makes me cringe tbh, and even that does (my fault for declining the injection when asked if I wanted one!)

So did they know about the cysts before the surgery? I mean, were they not lumpy bits sticking out of your gums or anything?

they was aware of an infection & they did call the cyst it straight away to be fair...
somthing 3 nhs dentists back home failed to do - who kept saying it was just
an infection & kept giving me antibiotics.

Ouch.

this is all due to an impact injury (playing contact rugby on concreate is not advisable)
& then major f**kups by my dentsit at the time by botching a root canal.

At least you can afford to get it sorted m8 :)

My problems are genetic and the NHS really dont want to know :/

Theyre looking good although I dont fancy the pain youre going to start feeling once the pain killers wear off :/

This is true, knowing how much damage can be done on grass I certainly wouldnt like to try it. Played rugby for years without any lost teeth then met a firedoor in the face. Now have a 3 tooth bridge. Going to be fun if I need dentures as Im very allergic to the stuff they normally use, it would kill me.

as long as your problems arent above the gumline, then youll be fine.

My front tooth wasnt lost overnight, it was a result of quite a few impact injuries.. about 4 or 5 & this is the result of about what started 20 years ago. Ive had crowns & things in the past. Even a denture.

I am just really pissed off that what I have had to have done today was not even mentioned to me by an NHS dentist.

Ive worked it out & its all costed me about £3000 so far.
Thats including flights, hotel, spending money, airport parking, etc.
Only thing thats "missing" is loss of earnings as Im self employed.

Even the temporary bridge looked quite good; although I can see why youd want implants as biting down on anything would probably snap the bridge off.

Working off of the number of fat lips Ive had in the past (from Karate / Boxing), youll find itll be back to normal in under a week.

p.s.
Have a shave you god damn hippy ;)

i shave every other day. Unfortunately implant is no longer an option. The tumour ate a lot of bone & killed 3 other front teeth! I have had a sinus lift done, but the success rate for the implant would be quite low & require 2 further visits.
The tumour was about the size of a grape!

So I have now got the all clear to travel home on Sunday. Ill then come back out in october for the hollywood smile!
2x bridges, 1x impant & the rest crowned.

All this was only possible after a rich relative left me some shillings in a will.

How much would it have cost on the NHS over here (if they had actually spotted what needed doing?) and how much would it have cost over here privately?

Ah I see.

I have a Maryland bridge across the lower centre of my teeth (bridge gives me back my 2 front teeth as Father Christmas has never delivered).
The bridge is glued into placed and *touch wood* has only come off once in 15 years. That was about 5 years ago and the reason was my jaw had changed shape and I needed a new bridge.

I wonder if, after returning to the UK, youll actually find the temporary work youve had done satisfactory and then start to question whether its worth spending out on the rest !

NHS is a fixed price Zpyder, I think there are 3x charging catergories - and the most you will pay is less than £200
but they wont do cosmetic work to the extent I am having done. They will do some if you can prove it makes you self concious, etc.

Now technically, what I have had done this week could have been done on the NHS - Infact it should have been done on the NHS as it is somthing that has developed over a long time - I would have been in school at the time, which does tie everything up when I first think about the problems I went through when younger. NHS dentist back home kept saying it was just an abcess & gave me antibiotics. I think where the system failed back home was that my Dentist then unregistered as an NHS dentist, so I had to find another & was back to square 1 with more antibiotics. Ive had 4 dentists in 20 years & none picked up on this... now I cant get an NHS dentist back home - well I can, but its slow with long gaps between appointments.

The dental work alone will come to £6500 when I have finished, for what will be a 6x piece bridge, a 3x piece bridge, 1x implant & 8 zirconia crowns - to explain zirconium crowns http://www.specialistdentalgroup.com/images/media/emtg2008---zirconium-crowns.jpg
Theres no metal in them & you dont get that dreaded black line between the tooth & gum that eventually develops.
Obviously they cost  a bit more.

Bridge is £290 per tooth, crown is £290 per tooth, the implant is £480 + £290 for the tooth.
The temp bridge was £300 (£50 per unit) & the surgery £800 - the rest has gone in xrays & other bits n pieces.
Oh & replacing my filling for a white one which he said hell throw in.

At least somthing like that!

my dentist back home was £2k for full implant & £400 per crown. Thats excluding the surgery I had, temp. bridge, etc.
and the white filling £70.
I am guessing I have saved around 40% & maybe 25% after counting the flights & accomodation...
But this is a spa resort. I stayed in a cheap place (40euros) next time im staying in a 5 star for 90 euros.
So it will be a proper week away & coming home feeling a million bucks - for what would cost about a million bucks (at least in florints!)

I have lost all trust, faith & confidence in UK Dentists. I have to come back, as this temp crown is like having a gum shield in!

Heh, I did that once when I was younger as I couldnt bear the thought of someone sticking a needle on my gums and the last time I had something done was an extraction under gas so it was painless. My one filling and it was pure agony.

Never again!

Ive had some bad experiences with dentists in the past. I recall an orthodontist with no hygiene whatsoever and a very rough manner who was eventually struck off after damaging patients teeth quite badly and then a normal dentist who, after I refused to have a brace fitted, told me when that by the time Id finished puberty my mouth would be disfigured, I wouldnt be able to speak properly and it would look (as she put it) "simply disgusting, think of your wedding photographs dear, youll be a monster."

Ten years on my mouth is fine. In fact nothing at all has changed, I had my first check up in ten years a few months ago and was given a thumbs up and a sugar free lolly.
