Free money given to those who are on low income or have children

you're pissed because they rejected the cuts or you're pissed because the government tried to cut them to start with ?

better to boost the pay of low income families than to leave them better off on benefits ?

I have a hell of a time getting staff because it's simple manual labour... I've repeatedly been told "I need £400/week after tax or I'm better off on benefits".... which is a hard push when they have no qualifications, can hardly read or write, can't drive, can't do basic math etc. etc.

(£400 post tax is ~£499 pre tax)

Because the cuts were rejected.. but mostly because they seem to have been rejected by the unelected which IMO shouldn't have even been a possibility.

The whole better off on benefits is the whole problem with this place, benefits should never have been allowed to get so high, if you can afford more than the bare essentials (and no your smoking, drinking, pets, iphones, sky tv and games consoles do not count here) they are giving out too much.

Benefits are joke, i know people who had been playing the system for 25 years and get away with it, while i struggle to earn enough cash to survive and the one time i needed JSA after my mum passed away i struggled to get it.

If you choose to have a big family with no intention of working then you shouldn't benefit from it, the system needs changing.

I think the idea of raising the minimum wage and slashing tax credits is a good one in principle, I think there is an issue in the implementation namely the sudden gap between the minimum wage being increased and the sudden removal of tax credits.

Obviously employers need time to introduce a higher minimum wage so it is being phased in... it might therefore have been better for them to have some temporary plan to help with the shortfall people would experience with the sudden removal of tax credits.

UK minimum wage at present £268. That's about 2.5 times what I get Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

The problem isn't that wages are so high but that bills are so high, especially things like rent. Take taxes, rent and utilities bills off and you would be lucky to have £80 left.

IF you didn't vote then it's your fault for not doing so. If you voted Tory then you voted for the removal of Tax Credits. Well done for shooting yourself in the ass.

I think you've misread the OP - he's pissed off that the cuts have been blocked, he's not pissed off that cuts are being proposed. Given that I doubt he is shooting himself in the ass in this context - the biggest effect is going to be felt by people who work part time in a low skilled role....

At least those getting tax credits are working.
However this allows companies to pay staff less.
Maybe they should give the companies tax breaks to pay more.

There is the other element, where people purposely work minimum hours to qualify for tax credits & get enough to live on.. or even better off if it means they dont cross the threshold.

Tax credits pay for themselves in that you don't have people leaving work or getting themselves fired cause they can't afford to live on the money.

Yep give companies tax breaks to pay more when the government is supposedly strapped for cash. They are only doing this to get money to give rich fat cats tax cuts later

And I can certainly see companies passing on the money, to their owners/board members.

ATM the Chancellor is acting as if he wants to suicide his party. Perhaps trying to make himself popular as a replacement for the loser in charge.

all the cuts are so the government can pay back more of it's debt, but at the same time it's borrowing as much as it can while inflation is naff all - I'm guessing the plan is borrow now while it's super cheap and invest in the country so we're stronger in the long run and can pay back the money more easily..... but lets face it will politicians you can never tell

True.. but its always the same cycle.
Conservatives save money by making cuts
People get fed up & vote in labour.
Labour waste the money, rack up debt.
People get fed up & vote in conservatives.

Under the current lot including the time in a coalition..
Im going to use a labour phrase.
Ive never had it so good.

Hard work is finally paying.
