yay for peircings!
on: September 12, 2009, 17:51:19 PM
I got my scaffolding piercing (industrial if you want to be picky) done a couple of weeks ago, but had the two ickle bars in, and today I had the long bar put in.
I have slight hypertrophic scarring ): bad times, and a mini cyst inside (loads of pus came out, awesome :D)
Question is, do you think my ear is going to reabsorb the scarring like my piercer Fungus said, or do you think its going to get bigger, grow facial features and eat me while I sleep?

I better give it a name then, it might like me more for being nice to it! (:
And awesome, and nothing wrong with having the same thing, I think I wore the same earings for like 4 years (: Continuity

If theres puss inside call the RSPCA, theyll get you arrested for treating cats badly.

Really, get it checked up.

She had it checked, there was apparently a cyst that popped when the bar went through. So should be all clear now. Im overseeing her cleaning since she cant get anyone else to help her do a through job.

So the cyst was in your ear to start with?

Me = total piercing nub?!

no, when I had the bar put in, when my ear tried to heal, something went a bit wrong, and a cyst formed, it could have been down to me sleeping on it by accident, my hair getting caught in it, or playing with it when I hadnt washed my hands (Im really fidgety at times) so along came mr cyst!

Id be very worried that your piercer used two bars to start with as it means the holes can heal at slightly different angles so when the proper bar is put in it irritates the piercings. Also, if it was infected, there shouldnt be any changes made to it. No competent piercer would change jewellery in an infected wound as all it will do is introduce more foreign material and irritation. An industrial (indeed any cartilage piercing) takes anywhere from 3 to 9 months to heal. During this time the jewellery shouldnt be changed

I would consider getting another, well regarded, piercer to have a look at it, but it sounds like its been a right mess from start to finish.

I was told you should put two bars in, to avoid putting too much pressure on the ear, which most piercers dont, which means that sometimes peoples ears collapse. Not good.

And, although I was kinda worried that would happen, because due to Gerald the scar it was making the top one go at a more slightly downwards angle than diagonal, but now the bars in, its fine.

After reading on the internet about scaffolding peircings, it said changing the bar might help it, though they said to change to two small bars, which I couldnt do, seeming as they were what I had in already...

Im cleaning it twice a day with the saline solution, and using hydrogen peroxide like he advised to get all the nasty stuff out, which is making it better imo.

I would go have another piercer go look at it, but seriously, in Fareham and Portsmouth and the surrounding area, they are probably the best studio there is, all the others have really bad reputation, and Im not going out of the city just for my ear (:

Ive been with her the whole time and taking her to get it checked, I think the guy has been very informative, helpful and professional. I certainly dont think it was a dodgy pierce, more that she has just been unlucky and fallen foul of sleeping on her ear.

The only way that a single bar would put too much pressure on is if the bar was too short for the distance used, or not long enough to allow for swelling.

What % h202 are you using? Are you using a prepared saline solution or just mixing salt & water?

Its still ridiculous that it was changed after only two weeks, especially with visible infection.

(For reference, Ive had 26 piercings and my wife 32)
