Yet another visit to the docs...
on: March 21, 2012, 08:11:05 AM
Went a few weeks ago to get some drugs changed, they were not having the desired effect and I'm not talking Viagra here...

Anyway, at the same time I was told to arrange my annual tests, which wasn't a problem.

I asked the doc to add a vit D test, just in case. It seems all the fibromyalgia sites state that it can be an issue and I've been even more tired than usual. The doc pointed out that most people with vit D deficiency were dark skinned. I asked for it to be done anyway and the doc agreed.

The new drugs aren't perfect but at least I can take my co-codamol 30/500s without having to give birth. The downside of that is when I've gotta go, I've REALLY gotta go, at best I've one minute to get to the throne. That can be difficult if your best speed is walking...

I then went back for the tests, couple of phials of blood and a 'whisky' sample. BP was a bit high.

Then a few days later the surgery phoned me, 10 past 9am. The doc wanted me to have a repeat thyroxine test as I was borderline ... in six months... I pointed out that it was a bit soon to arrange that appointment so they are going to phone me nearer the time, hopefully much nearer...

Yesterday I went back, needed some more of the new medicines and they hadn't been put on repeat yet. I also got her to check the vit D test, seems I'm down - 60% on what I should be. So I was right on that and got yet another item to take. BP was down a bit again, so hopefully that trend will continue.

Sounds like you're going through a whole heap of problems.

Fibromyalgia is an idiosympathic diagnosis but with all the other issues you have are you sure you don't have something else they've yet to find?

My mum had massive exhaustion and body pains. Insulin dependent diabetic and on levothyroxine... they put her exhaustion down to her diabetes and aches and pains down to arthritis.

18 months it took of constant arguing with the doctors to get them to really look at her test results again, get a second opinion. Finally diagnosed with MyeloDysplastic Anaemia.

She's on blood transfusions every 4 - 6 weeks now however what an amazing difference it has made to her quality of life, before they were just treating the symptoms, now with blood transfusions taking the place of her own blood production facility she's able to once more function normally to a degree once again. Even hold down a regular full-time job, not that she ever quit, despite being unable to walk due to exhaustion even when aided, down the driveway... she just carried on working and called in sick on her weakest days.

Just saying, you're on a lot of drugs for a lot of things and it sounds exceedingly similar to what my mum went through only we refused to take the doctors first answer on her deteriorating health.

It's rather a loose bag of symptoms that happen at the same time to people. they are grouped up and given a name. Not all people who are labelled with it will have the same symptoms. The result might be regarded as much as a group of conditions that might or might not be related. Diagnosis is problematic, treatment pot luck and there are no specific tests.

Last night I went and sat down on my bed at 6PM, a series of short naps later it was 2AM. Then I managed a 4 hour block and got up at 6AM, feeling almost as tired as when I went to sleep. Tonight I might manage as little as 2 hours sleep.

The doc gives me drugs to try and treat my symptoms but then has to give me more drugs to treat the side effects of the first lot. Not all of my symptoms are caused by the original problems.

Then many of the drugs the doctor can give me for pain aren't very effective, there seems to be an issue specific to fibromyalgia that reduces the effect of morphine based drugs.

Been up 7 hours and I'm less tired than I was. Unfortunately I now have flu like symptoms back that were not there this morning, aching muscles, painful joints, headache, sniffly nose, sticky eyes.
