god no.  Most people wouldnt be able to get enough extra wages to pay for the same standard of living.  The number of people I know who have moved to London, then back up north just isnt funny.

A think tank that are traditionally seem as supporters of the tories come out with this study just as David Cameron is visiting places in the North.....

Far too convenient to be honest. There are obvious political machinations at work behind the scenes.

Even the think tank them selfs think its stupid. Thats just a contradiction. I think its the most pointless think tank in the world and should be given a job in some menial government department so they cant cause any more trouble and live their lives until they die in the same job.

Think Id be annoyed being grouped together with Sunderland and Bradford if I was Liverpool.

Im an exiled Northerner in the smoke, and it is awesome to be fair. Biggest thing it has in its favour is the majority of people dont drive to work, so much more social atmosphere in the week.

As pointed out though, you have to be able to earn the greens to support the lifestyle. Otherwise itd be a crap place to be.
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

actually, reading between the lines it sounds more like the think tank are trying to slag off current government policies... its just been turned around onto them by the politicians

Hes right in the higher end salaries though. And theres less career moves outside of London. If you want to be in finance, software development, etc London is the place. Its the only place in Europe that can really compete with NYC.

well minimum wage is the same all over the UK  :P

just kidding

It depends what you do really but in general, for professional level work, wages are a lot better in London and tbh.. quite a few banking jobs dont really exist outside the city/canary wharf - it is an international city so for wages/cost of living its better to compare with the likes of Tokyo, NY, etc... than other UK cities.
