No tips from me unfortunately as I've only just  bought myself a Jessops 360afd for £40 from fleabay so I'll be playing with that over the next few weeks.

I take it you've had a dig about on http://strobist.blogspot.com/ not read much but always here good things on there.

yes, thats the bible for strobists.
My stuff could take 2 weeks to turn up - you might want to look into the YongNuo flashes
http://speedlights.net/category/yongnuo/ - reviews there & everyone seems to love them for the money you pay.. £25 on ebay

I guess I'll start with doing some smoke shots... just need to wait upto 2 weeks for everything to be delivered from china & hong kong..

I'll probably have a bash at the smoke shots and the ubiquitous water droplet shots when I get mine, need to have a look for some decent tutorials for both (I know the basic idea and it won't be that hard to try and play around with but it'll give me something to read)  The other thing I need to look around of ebay for is any accessories that might be worth it, stands for them, extension cables, diffusers etc.

Did your kit turn up yet Egg?

Am quite to invest in something like this myself, trying to work out whether to go with the manual-only 560s or something that has auto + manual instead.

Did you ever get the rest of your kit Egg?

Am eventually building up to making my order... just need to decide which light to go for.

oh yes - turned up the weekend, not had chance to play, busy running getting my company launched.
been offered a 9month contract - which I will do through the business, then launch it proper before next xmas.
I also sold off all my lenses (except for a 70-300 which is no good for storbing I want to do) to buy a macro lens,
but had to spend that money on insurance :o/

if your going the cheapness from china route - I would add a few unbrellas & maybe a softbox if you have the cash.
I wish I did now, just because the length of delivery time

Theres nothing wrong with the yongnuo flashes - I plan on adding a 2nd set - the stand I got is a little short as well.
about 4ft or so.

Yeah thinking of something along these lines:

Although might splash a bit more cash for a yn468 so I can do some run&gun style stuff whilst out and about too.
