Good video, but dubious as to wether a Canon 20D was used. More likely video footage thats just been sped up!

But I could be wrong

dont know... as the 20d comes with the camera control software that allows you to take pics from a computer. Sooo... could have easily have been set up on a tripod taking shots every half a second or so.

Correct, however as these are all night shots, youd need exposures probably of about 5 seconds or more for the traffic shots (depending on the ISO and lens used of course), and probably 30 seconds or more for the pitch black plane shots, otherwise youd just have lots of dark photos :)

With that in mind, certain parts of the film seem unlikely to be captured, as the timescale they represent would be covered by only one actuation of the shutter, not many, making stop frame animation impossible.

But like I say, I could be wrong!

except... multiple exposures stacked... = one long exposure photo.

As my fuji only does 2 second exposures, if I want a 10 second one, I stack them later using software, and it creates the same effect.

First ones are evening, not night.

There are problems with doing this with a video camera, it will *look* speeded up. This does not have the effects of that kind of manipulation so its at least 99% that they are telling the truth. It would be easier to do it with the 20D and computer control from a notebook anyway.

its a laptop controled 20D in time lapse mode. The 20D has pretty good high ISO performance so no reason youd need more than a half second exposure tops.

I could do the same thing with my *ist if the mood took me, but because its a cheaper camera the buffer would give out pretty quickly at these frame rates. The 20D has a nice big buffer so could sustain it for a long time if not indefinitly

edit: in amongst all that I forgot to say its an impressive piece of work, I like this sort of thing a lot.

Im not doubting the 20Ds ability to perform time lapse photography. Im just questioning the conditions that some of the photos were taken in, and therefore the ability to produce a shot still enough to then be combined with other stills in order to produce a time lapse video.

Ive taken photos before in similar conditions to the plane landing section, i.e. near pitch black. With ISO 3200 and an f1.8 lens I still required exposure times of 2-3 seconds.

Its probably just the cynic in me, Ive seen so many fake, or mis described videos on the web that I think I just have an inherit need to query anything I see on youtube, google video or break.com

More digging done, the video is by a company called 599 productions. They have a website http://www.599productions.com/599/Home.html, albeit a shoddy one.

On the site is a link to a 720p version of the time lapse video, having looked at parts of this larger vid I think I can happily say it is legit. This version of the video also seems to be a lot brighter than the one on youtube, but that might just be me.

Taking aaaaaaaaaaaages to download the full 720p version though!

go to the canon website should be able to download it from there, if not it should be on your cameras cds.

It works with my mates 350d so should work with your 300d.
